The Will of Mary Coates

 

I MARY COATES of Barnard Castle in the parish of Gainford and the County of Durham, widow, being of sound mind and memory do make this my Last Will and Testament in manner following. I give and devise unto my son WILLIAM COATES of 56 St Martins Lane Charing Cross in the parish of St Martin in the Fields and County of Middlesex Mans Mercer all that freehold estate messuages tenements land hereditaments with the appurtenances situate at Willy Pott House in Baldersdale in the parish of Romaldkirk and County of York and in the occupation of WILLIAM KIPLING as servant thereof to hold unto the said WILLIAM COATES his heirs and assigns for ever subject nevertheless and chargeable to the following Legacies viz.

I give and devise unto the three nephews and six neices , sons and daughters of THOMAS SAYER and MARTHA SAYER of ?Lutel? in the parish of Bowes and County of York the sum of £20 each to be paid out of my said estate by my executors hereinafter mentioned viz.

unto WILLIAM SAYER the sum of £20,

unto THOMAS SAYER the sum of £20,

unto GEORGE SAYER the sum of £20,

unto MARY SAYER the sum of £20,

unto SARAH SAYER the sum of £20,

unto ELIZABETH SAYER the sum of £20,

unto PEGGY SAYER the sum of £20,

unto MARTHA SAYER the sum of £20

and unto VILETTE SAYER the sum of £20

my said grandsons and granddaughters are to receive each one half of their legacies viz £10 each at the expiration of one year after my decease and the other half viz £10 at the expiration of three years .... but in case any one of my grandsons or granddaughters should die ... then it is to become the property of my said son WILLIAM COATES.

Lastly I direct my executors to pay all my just debts and funeral Expences and that I shall be decently buried at Romaldkirk as are my ancestors. My Executors are to have full power ... to collect any rent that may be owing at the time of my decease .... My household furniture such as beds, bedding, tables, chairs etc I give unto my six neices equally share and share alike. I consitute and appoint my son WILLIAM COATES and nephew JONATHAN HORN of Startford [Starforth] Hall in the County of York my sole executors. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 10 December 1813

Proved at York 31 August 1820 by the oath of William Coates.
