The Will & Inventory of William Clayton

 

In the name of God Amen the sixteeth daie of Julie in the yeare of the incarnation of our Lord Saviour Jesus Christ according to our English computation one thowsand six hundreth and eighteene I William Clayton being sicke in bodie but of good and p’fecte Memorie god be praised doe make this my last will and Testament in manner and forme followinge  First I give and commende my soule into the hands of Almightie God trustinge that my Savio’r Jesus Christ who paid the .... for the redemption of mee and all ............ into the blisse pr’pared for the faithfull of w’ch number I faithfully ......... selfe to be and my bodie to Christian buriall  It’m my worldly goods I give and dispose In manner and forme followinge  Imprimis I give and bequeath unto my nephewe William Spridley ten pounds  It’m to francis Spridley his brother fyve pounds  It’m to Margaret Spridley his sister her fyve pounds and one gould ringe  It’m to Anne Garrett wiefe of Henrie Garrett of Newton aforesaid a paire of sheete  It’m to Margerie Idden wiefe of Mathew Idden one Jewell  It’m to Elline Idden her daughter an other Jewell both w’ch are in the keepinge of Margerie Idden the mother  It’m to Mathew Idden my sword and what els mybrother Sprydley shall thinke fitting to bestowe upon him  It’m to Marrie Garreed daughter of Henrie Garreed two shillinge six pence  It’m to Jane Parr daughter of the wid... of Henrie Garrett 12d  It’m to Anne Parr her sister 12d  It’m to francis Spridley servant to my brother Spridley my ould black Jerkin and breeches  It’m to Raphe by brother Milner an ould Coate w’ch Edward Rothwell hath  It’m I give and bequeath the rest of my goods and Chattells (my debts and funerall expenses being first discharged of the whole) to John Spridley my brother in law and Elizabeth Spridley his wiefe  Lastly I constitute and make the said John Spridley my true and lawfull executor trustinge he will see this my last will and Testament p’formed accordinge to the true meaning there of  I wittnesse whereof I have putt my hand and seale the daie and yeare above written   W Claiton
