The Will of William Clarke

 

In the name of God Amen, October the 30th 1648. I, William Clarke of Little Crakehall in the county of York yeoman, sick of body but of perfect memory (praise be to God) do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following. 
First I commend my soul into the hands of almighty God my maker and redeemer and my body to the earth from where it came. 
Item I give and bequeath unto Margaret my wife this my now dwelling house and the front or garth on the backside thereunto adjoining and three lands in the town fields of Little Crakehall aforesaid commonly called by the name of Boddomes and one little close called by the name of Paddock lying in the East Field and one close called Milne Hill adjoining unto the milne hill. 
Item my will and meaning is that Margaret my said wife shall have the aforesaid house and garth and the lands and closes aforesaid during her natural life and after her decease I do give and bequeath unto Thomas Mumforth, son of Bartholomew Mumforth of Askew, the said house and garth on the backside and the Boddomes and the Paddock for ever. 
I do give and bequeath unto Elizabeth Fenycke, daughter of Bryan Fenycke of Askew after the decease of Margaret my said wife the aforesaid close called milne close for ever. 
Item I do make Margaret my wife my executor of this my last will and testament, unto whom I do give all the rest of my goods and chattels
