The Will of Rebecca Clarke

 

This is the Last Will and Testament of me Rebecca Clarke of the Town and Port of Dover in the County of Kent Widow being of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding ffirst and principally I recommend my Soul unto the Hands of my Creator in all humble hopes of future forgiveness and happiness through the Merits of my Redeemer Jesus Christ and my Body I direct may be decently Interred at the discretion of my Executors hereinafter named I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Elizabeth my Wearing Apparel of all sorts ...and Household Linen of every kind to be delivered to her as soon as she shall attain the Age of twenty one years or be Married or sooner if my Executors shall think Proper And I give devise and bequeath All and every my Leasehold Messuage and Premises wherein I now reside together with my Household Goods ffurniture Plate China Monies Securities for the Money and all and singular Other my Goods Chattells Property and Effects whatsoever and wheresoever unto my Son John Atkins Clarke and to Benjamin Clanfield of Dover aforesaid Shipbuilder (whom I do nominate and appoint Executors of this my Will) their Executors Admors and Assigns Upon Trust When and so soon as my said Daughter Elizabeth shall attain the Age of twenty one years or be Married to sell and dispose of the same and to pay divide and apply the Monies to arise thereby unto and among the said John Atkins Clark and all and every of my other Children that shall then be living in equal proportions share and share alike And in case any of my Children shall then be Dead leaving Issue then my will is that the Issue of such Child or Children so Dead shall be entitled to the same Part or Parts as his her or their deceased parent or parents would have been if living Provided Always and my Will is that my Son Thomas Clarke shall before he recieves his share of my Effects account unto my Executors for the Sum of Thirty Pounds the amount of Monies from time to time advanced him by his late ffather And I do hereby direct my said Executors and the Survivor of them to pay and dispose of the Interest Dividends Rents and Profits of my Estate and Effects and also such part of the Capital thereof as they shall judge necessary for the better Education Maintenance and Bringing Up of my said Daughter Elizabeth until she shall attain the Age of twenty one years or be married And I do hereby authorise and empower my said Executors and the Survivor of them to Mortgage or to sell and dispose of my said Dwellinghouse and Premises if they shall at any time think necessary and to place out the Monies to arise thereby at Interest Upon the Trusts aforesaid And in that Case I direct that the receipt or receipts of my said Executors or the Survivor of them shall effectually discharge the Purchaser or Purchasers thereof without such Purchaser or Purchasers being liable to see to the Application or being liable to see to the application or Being answerable for the misapplication or non application of the Purchase Monies or Witness Monies In Witness Whereof I the said Rebecca Clarke have to this my last Will and testament set and affixed my Hand and Seal this fifteenth Day of November in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety nine
