The Will of Ralph Clarke

 

In the Name of God Amen.  I RALPH CLARKE of Bourn in the County of Lincoln, victuallor (innkeeper) being sick and weak in body but of sound and imposing mind and memory (praised be to God) Do make and ordain my Will and Testament in manner following. Impris, I give devise and bequeath unto my SON WILLIAM CLARK his heirs & afsigns all that my now dwelling house with all and singular the outhoufes buildings land and pastures thereon belonging which I hold by leafe from Jno Dawkins of Stamford together with the leafe itself and all the form of years therein to me.  I do also give him my cloak & cape.  Item I give and bequeath unto my DAUGHTER SUSANNAH CLARKE fifteen pounds to be paid her by my Executor hereinafter named on her day of marriage or in two years after my deceafe which shall first happen.  I do also give her my best bed and all furniture and my gold ring immediately after my deceafe.  Item I give and bequeath onto SARAH MY WIFE heretofore Sarah COX ten pounds to be paid within two years after my deceafe.  Also I give unto her my second best bed and a box and chest which were her mothers.  Item I give unto my SON RICHARD CLARKE twenty shillings to be paid within one year after my deceafe.  Item I give and bequeath unto my youngest SON JOHN CLARKE by Sarah my said wife five pounds which I will shall be paid him at the age of one and twenty years by my Executor whom I do hereby will direct and entreat take care to bring up and educate my said son John until he be fit to go out to serve or be put an apprentice to some trade or calling.  Item I do hereby will & order that my linen shall be equally divided between the said Sarah my wife, my son William and my daughter Susannah share and share alike.  All the rest of my personal estate I do give and bequeath unto my said son William Clark whom I do hereby make and constitute sole Executor of this my Last Will and Testament first paying and discharging my aforesaid legacies my debts and funeral expenses hereby revoking all other wills by me made.  In witnefs whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and seal this twentieth day of February in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred Twenty Eight.  Ralph (his mark) Clarke
