The Will of Clement Chittock

 

In the Name of God Amen I Clement Chittock of the parish of St Alphage in the City of Canterbury Gentleman being of sound mind & memory do declare this to be my last Will & Testament The property I am now possessed of I dispose of & distribute in the following manner (that is to say) To make the remainder of the life of my dear wife as comfortable as possible I give to her all my Property whether in Stock or Bonds Notes of hand or Cash to her to enjoy during her natural life & at her death it shall be in her power to charge upon my property the Sum of One hundred pounds of lawful money which she may dispose of or give to anyone she may think proper at the same time she is to give up all Claim to our Marriage Bond & the said Bond shall be void & of no effect But if my said wife shall rather chuse to take the two hundred & forty pounds being the amount of the said Bond then & in such case before the receiving or at the time of receiving the same she shall give a release from any Claim or demand upon any of my Estate or Effects Whatsoever except an eight Day Clock a Bed & other necessaries for the use of a Single Room & my said Wife shall signify in writing to my Exors in three months after my death with her own free will which will be most agreeable to her It is my desire that my three houses in Orange Street in the City of Canterbury shall be sold by Auction except my Exors shall be offered for them what they think they are worth for the money arising from the same together with all other money remaining at my Death when the said Marriage Bond is paid & all my just debts are satisfied to be disposed of as follows The sons and daughters of William Chittock of Saxlingham in the County of Norfolk late of the same place the sum of ffifty pounds each I give to Lydia Crouch my Gold Watch & the Green Chagrin Case thereunto belonging I give to John Pilcher of Saint Mary Brokman in the City of Canterbury ten pounds or to Sarah Pilcher his Daughter to be paid immediately upon my decease I give bread to the amount of fforty shillings to the Poor of the parish of Saint Alphage to be distributed upon the day of my Interment I hereby appoint my wife Ann Chittock John Pilcher of the parish of Saint Dunstan Wheel Wright & Clement Chittock of Saxlingham in the County of Norfolk Yeoman Executors of this my last Will & Testament I declare this to be my last Will & Testament revoking all former Wills by me made this twenty fifth Day of June in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred & fourteen Clemt Chittock
