This is the Last Will and Testament of me
JOSEPH CHAPMAN of Naby [crossed out and Cotherstone above] in the
parish of Romaldkirk in the North Riding of the County of York
yeoman. I charge my Real estate with the payment of my just debts
and funeral and testamentary Expences and legacies and Annuities
given by this my will in and of my Personal Estate I give and
bequeath unto my wife JANE CHAPMAN for her own use and benefit all
my household furniture beds bedding plate linen china and other
household goods and furniture that may be in and about my dwelling
house at the time of my decease. And I give and devise unto my said
wife JANE CHAPMAN for and during the term of her natural life one
clear annuity ... of £50...
I give and bequeath unto my nephew JOHN
CHAPMAN one Guinea.
I give and bequeath unto my nephew JOSEPH
CHAPMAN £500 .. unto and between and amongst my nephew JOSEPH
CHAPMAN and my neices MARTHA CHAPMAN, SARAH CHAPMAN, MARGARET
CHAPMAN and ANN CHAPMAN children of my said brother JOHN CHAPMAN
deceased to be equally divided between them share and share alike
......
I give and bequeath £700 [crossed out and £600
above] amongst the children of GEORGE CLARKSON of Bowes in the
County of York Schoolmaster by my neice ELEANOR CLARKSON his late
wife equally divided amongst them ... at the expiration of twelve
calendar months next after my decease to such of them as shall have
attained 21 years ....
I give and bequeath £500 unto between and
amongst all and every the children of my nephew JOHN HIGHMOOR of
Bowes Cross in the County of York yeoman equally to be divided
between them ...
I give unto THOMAS DODDS son of THOMAS DODDS
late of Cotherstone husbandman deceased the legacy of £100.
I give unto ANN DODDS daughter of JAMES DODDS
late of Moorlaws in the County of Nurthumberland husbandman deceased
a legacy of £100 ... and is she dies .... I give and devise one
moiety or half part unto between and amongst all and every the
children of her late Brother THOMAS DODDS in equal shares .....
and I give the remaining moiety unto her
brother JOHN DODDS ....
All and every my messuages farms lands
hereditaments and real estate and all and every my Personal estate
.... unto my said nephew JOHN HIGHMOOR (who is) sole executor of
this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills
.... In witness whereof I have to this my Last Will and testament
hereunto set my hand this 25 February 1822
