The Will of Sarah Chalkley

 

In the name of God Amen I Sarah Chalkley of Wood Street in the parish of Walthamstow and County of Essex Widow being of sound mind memory and understanding do make and declare this to be my last will and testament in manner and form following I give and bequeath to the Revd Henry Handley Norris of Grove Street Hackney in the County of Middlesex all my interest or share in the consolidated four pr cent bank annuities or any other public fund which shall be found standing in my name at the time of my decease in the books at the Bank of England or elsewhere In trust in the first place to sell and transfer such part thereof as shall be necessary to pay and discharge all my just debts funeral and testamentary expences the charge of proving this my Will together with such legacy or legacies as I may herein devise the rest and residue of my said capital stock I will and direct to remain in the name of my said trustee subject to such charges and expences as he may be put to in the execution of his trust for the benefit of my niece Elizabeth Bruce my great nephew and great niece Robert and Jane Cragg and such child or children of the said Robert and Jane Cragg lawfully begotten as shall be alive at the time of their decease that is to say to permit the said Elizabeth Bruce to enjoy the interest of the said capital stock during her natural life for her sole use and benefit her receipt notwithstanding her coverture to be a sufficient and full discharge to my said trustee and from and after her decease to permit the aforesaid Robert and Jane Cragg to enjoy the interest during their joint lives and the survivor of them during his or her life and after his or her decease to divide the said capital stock between the aforesaid children of the above mentioned Robert and Jane Cragg when they shall each attain their respective ages of twenty one years share and share alike or if only one such child be alive then to transfer the whole over to such child but if the aforesaid Robert and Jane Cragg shall leave no children then my will is that my trustee should transfer the said capital stock to my niece Mary Bates and I give the same to her and to her heirs for ever and in case John Bruce the husband of the above mentioned Elizabeth Bruce shall interfere or demand the said interest or any part thereof during the life of his said wife Elizabeth Bruce then and in such case I give the said interest to my said trustee to be by him disposed of at his pleasure during the life time of the said Elizabeth Bruce all the rest and residue of my estate and effects whatsoever and wheresoever I give and bequeath to my niece Elizabeth Bruce for her sole use and benefit and do hereby nominate and appoint her sole executrix of this my will and revoking all other wills by me heretofore made I hereby declare this to be my last will and testament dated this twenty eighth day of December in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and seven Signed with my hand and sealed with my Seal_Sarah Chalkley
