This is the Last Will and Testament of me
GEORGE CALVERT of Thwaite Bridge in the parish of Aisgarth in the
North Riding of the County of York gentleman. I give to the children
of my sister MARGARET CLAPHAM widow of the late Reverend ANTHONY
CLAPHAM £50 each. I also give unto MARTHA CULLINGWORTH widow of the
late WILLIAM CULLINGWORTH of London, hosier, £50. I also give unto
my nephew JOHN OGDEN son of my sister MARY OGDEN of Darlington
County Durham widow, £50. I also give to my said sister MARY OGDEN
one annuity ... of £20 during the term of her natural life .... I
give and bequeath unto ELIZABETH CALVERT daughter of my late nephew
JAMES CALVERT deceased one annuity of £20 ..... And I charge all my
lands and tenements hereditaments and Real Estate whatsoever and
wheresoever with the payment of the said annuities ....
I devise all my messuages lands and tenements
and Real Estate ... unto HENRY WILMOT of Bloomsbury Square in the
County of Middlesex Esq to hold to him .... immediately after my
decease .....
I give devise and bequeath my said Real Estate
unto my late apprentice WILLIAM CALVERT of the parish of St Bride's
in the City of London, Coal Merchant,.... for the term of his
natural life....
I give and devise the same to JOHN PRATT of
Askrigg and parish of Aisgarth Esq and JOHN HARRISON of Hawes,
hosier and WILLIAM CALVERT upon Trust ... that the said WILLIAM
CALVERT during his life receive and take the rents and issues and
profits and from and after the death of WILLIAM CALVERT I give and
devise the same to the first son of the body of WILLIAM CALVERT
lawfully begotten ... and in default of such issue ... to my nephew
FRANCIS CLAPHAM of Sunderland in the county of Durham brewer ...
then to the first son of FRANCIS CLAPHAM ... and in default of such
issue ... to ELIZABETH CALVERT daughter of my late nephew JAMES
CALVERT... and then to her son ..... and in default of such issue
.... unto My Own Right Heirs ... provided and always and my will and
mind is that the said FRANCIS CLAPHAM and all and every person
.....shall as soon be resepctively entitled to and be in possession
of any of my estates ..... and not be of the surname CALVERT ...
take upon themselves respectively the surname of CALVERT only and
bear the arms of CALVERT....
Also my mind and will is and I do hereby order
and direct that my Silver Tankard and the Old Tumbler Silver Cups
and Family Table Spoon, the Great Cupboard in the Kitching , the
Bureau I brought from London and the little Cupboard in the wall of
the kitchen with the letters and figures RB 1670 on the door thereof
and all of which goods are now in my mansion house at Thwaite Bridge
shall remain and be in my said mansion house as Heirlooms and go
along with the same ...
I do nominate and appoint WILLIAM CALVERT,
FRANCIS CLAPHAM and JOHN HARRISON executors and I do give JOHN
HARRISON £50 for his trouble .... The rest and residue of my estate
I give to my executors after deducting my Funeral Expences and
expences attending the execution of the Trusts .... and I do hereby
desire to be buried in Askrigg Chapel. And lastly I revoke all
former wills and testaments by me made and declare this my last will
and testament In witness whereof I the said GEORGE CALVERT ... have
hereunto set my hand and seal 12 October 13th year of George III
