The Will of Katherine Bythwood
This is the last Will
and Testament of me Katherine Bythwood of
Horsham in the County of Sussex Widow First
my Will and desire is that my Executors
hereafter named do bury me in a decent and
Christian like manner by my ffirst husband
Thomas Wood at Capell in the County of Surry
And touching that Worldly Estate with which
it hath pleased God to bless me in this Life
I Give Devise and dispose of the same in the
manner and form following (That is to Say)
Imprimis I give and bequeath unto the three
daughters of my Sister Margaret Mare ffive
Pounds apiece of lawfull Money of Great
Britain to be paid unto each of them by my
Executors hereafter named within six months
after my decease And my Will in Case any or
either of them should happen to die before
the same become due and payable as aforesaid
that the Legacy or Legacies of her or them
so dying shall go to the survivor or
survivors of them and be equally divided
between then Share and Share alike Item I
give and bequeath unto my Sister Mary
Peacock and her Daughter Tenn Pounds apiece
of lawfull Money of Great Britain to be paid
unto each of them within six months after my
decease by my Executors and if either of
them shall happen to dye before the same
shall become due and payable as aforesaid
then my Will is that the Legacy of her so
dying shall go to the Survivor of them Also
I give and bequeath unto my said Sister Mary
and her Daughter to each of them one of my
Gold Rings Item I give and bequeath unto my
Sister Sarah Dale and to her two children
ffive pounds apiece of lawfull Money to be
paid unto each of them by my Executors
within six months of my decease And my Will
is in Case one or either of them shall
happen to dye before the same shall become
due and payable as aforesaid Then the Legacy
or Legacys of him her or them so dying shall
go to and be equally divided between the
Survivor or Survivors of Them Share and
Share alike Also I give and bequeath unto my
said Sister Sarah Dale and to her Daughter
one of my Gold Rings Item I give and
bequeath unto Mary Illman the Daughter of my
Brother James the sum of Tenn Pounds of
lawfull Money to be paid unto her by my
Executors within Six Months of my decease
Item I give and bequeath unto George John
Martha and Margaret Illman sons and
Daughters of my said Brother James ffive
Pounds apiece of lawfull Money to be paid to
them by my Executors within six months of my
decease and my Will is in Case one or either
of them shall happen to dye before the same
shall become due and payable as aforesaid
Then the Legacy or Legacys of him her or
them shall go to and be equally divided
between the Survivor or Survivors of them
Share and Share alike Also I give and
bequeath unto the sd William Illman son of
my Brother the said John Illman a Gold Ring
with the letters WS on it To George Illman
son of my Brother James Illman my Silver Cup
Item I give and bequeath unto my niece
Elizabeth Wood my prayer book Item I give
and bequeath unto my kinswoman Hannah Steele
Widow and to her three Children a guinea
apiece to be paid unto each of them by my
Executors within six months after my decease
I give and bequeath unto the son of my
Nephew in law Richard Wood Ten pounds of the
like lawfull money to be paid by my
Executors within six months after my decease
Item I give and bequeath unto my cousin Mary
Hubbard and to her son Thomas ffive pounds
apiece of like lawfull Money to be paid unto
each of them within six months after my
decease And my Will is that in Case either
of them shall happen to dye before the same
shall become due and payable as aforesaid
that then the Legacy of him or her so dying
shall go to the Survivor of them I give and
bequeath unto my Cousin Mary Hubbard's
sister Ann ffive pounds of like lawfull
Money to be paid unto her by my Executors
within six months of my decease Item I give
and bequeath unto my Brother George Illman
Ten Pounds of the like lawfull Money to be
paid unto him by my Executors when he shall
return from Sea Item I give and bequeath
unto the Children of Mr John Cooper formerly
of the Temple deceased And to Mre Grace
Carter and to each of her Children Twenty
Shillings a piece to buy each of them a Ring
and to be paid to each of them by my
Executors within six months of my decease
Item I give and bequeath unto Mrs Margaret
formerly Margaret Cooper and sister of the
said John Cooper One Guinea to buy hwe a
Ring to be paid unto her by my Executors
within six months after my decease Item I
give and bequeath unto Nathaaniel Cooper and
Ann Cooper Son and Daughter of the said John
Cooper to each of them a pair of my best
Sheets Item I give and bequeath unto John
Cooper Son of the said John Cooper my Silver
Tankard Item I give and bequeath unto my
Nephew in Law Edward Wood of Yewhurst my
Great Bible Item I Give and bequeath unto my
said Sisters Margaret Mare Mary Peacock and
Sarah Dale All my wearing Apparell both
Linnen and Woollen and All my Linnen and
Peeces of ffurniture to me belonging equally
to be divided between them Share and Share
alike And Lastly I do hereby constitute and
Appoint my said Nephew in Law Richard Wood
and my said Sister Margaret Mare Joynt
Executors of this my last Will and Testament
unto whom I do give Devise and bequeath All
the rest residue and remainder of my Goods
and Chattles Real and personal Estate
whatsoever after my Debts Legacys and
ffuneral Expenses shall be fully satisfied
and paid In Witness whereof I have to this
my last Will and Testament contained in two
sheets of paper set my hand and seal to each
sheet thereof the twelth day of November in
the year of Our Lord One Thousand Seven
