The Will of Lydia Bythewood

 

I Lydia Bythewood wife of Samuel Bythewood of Horsham in the County of Sussex currier being well in body and of sound mind & memory and understanding praised be Almighty God therefore and intending to settle the worldly estate wherewith God in his infinite mercy hath blessed me soe that noe difference may hereafter arise about the same doe make and ordaine this to be my last Will and Testament in manner and forme following hereby revoking and making void all former Wills by me at any time heretofore made And my body I commit to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executor hereafter named And as to my worldly Goods and Estate I dispose of them as followeth Imprimis I give and devise all my Messuage or Tenement Backside Garden Burgage Ground and .....with the Appurtenances Situate and being in the West street of the Burrough of Horsham aforesaid now in my own occupacion unto my loveing husband Samuell Bythewood for and dureing the Terme of his naturall Life and after his decease I give and devise the said messuage or Tenement Backside Garden Burgage Ground and ....with the Appurtenances unto the right heire of me the said Lydia Bythewood for Ever Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter in Law Elizabeth Bythewood the sume of ffive pounds Item I give and bequeath unto my Nephew Edward Anger the Elder of Eastborne the sume of twenty pounds Item I give and bequeath unto my nephew Thomas Cramp of Lewes and Edward Cramp of Westfirle the sume of Tenn pounds apeice Item I give and bequeath unto my neice Ann Hart the Elder of Uckfeild widdow the sume of twenty pounds Item I give and bequeath unto my neice Elizabeth Stephens the elder of Westfirle aforesaid the sume of ffourty Pounds Item I give and bequeath unto my kinsman Walter Stephens of Westfirle aforesaid the sume of Tenn pounds tem I give unto my brother in law William Hunt the sume of ffive pounds Item I give and bequeath unto my sister in Law Mary Hunt widdow the sume of ffive pounds and to Henry Hunt her sonn the sume of ffive pounds Item I give and bequeath to William Hunt of Horsham aforesaid cordwinder the sume of ffive pounds Item I give and bequeath unto Lydia Bennett wife of Phillipp Bennett the sume of ffive pounds Item I give and bequeath unto Mary Henty the sume of ffive pounds Item I give and bequeath unto the two men that carrye me to the church in my Chair the last time before my decease the sume of twenty shillings apeice Item I give and bequeath unto the poor of the parish of Horsham aforesaid the sume of ffive pounds in Bread to be distributed amongst them at the discretion of my Executor hereafter named within three months after my decease And all other legacies above mentioned to be paid within six months next after my decease by my Executor hereafter named Item and bequeath unto Joseph Stedman of Lindfield in Sussex the sume of ffive pounds to be paid within six months after my decease All the rest residue and remainder of my Goods Chattells ready monye Mortgages Bonds Bills and other Securitys and personall Estate whatsoever after my Debts Legacyes and ffunerall Expences are fully paid and discharged I give and bequeath unto my aforesaid loveing husband Samuel Bythewood whom I doe hereby nominate direct constitute and appoint full and sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I the said Lydia Bythewood have to this my last Will and Testament contained in Three sheetes of paper sett my hand and seale to each sheete of paper this second day of August in the year of our Lord God One Thousand Seaven Hundred and Twenty
