The Will of James Burberry
This is
the last Will and Testament of
me James Burberry of Ifield in
the County of Sussex Victualler
I give devise and bequeath all
and singular my real and
personal Estate whatsoever and
wheresoever unto my brother John
Burberry of Ifield aforesaid
Servant and
George Brauch of Ifield
aforesaid Labourer upon trust
that they the said John Burberry
and George Brauch or the
survivor of them or the Executor
or Administrator of each
survivor do and shall as soon as
conveniently may be after my
decease quit yield up and
discontinue the Public House and
appurtenances thereto belonging
which I now occupy known and
bearing the sign of the Old
Plough situate at Ifield
aforesaid And I direct that the
farm which I now both rent &
occupy called Gossops Green Farm
situate in the parish of Ifield
aforesaid together with the
livestock farming implements and
every thing found thereon at the
time of my decease may be
continued and held by my
Executors aforesaid or the
survivor of them or the Executor
or assign of each survivor for
the benefit of my wife Elizabeth
and my two children Thomas and
Amelia And in case my said Wife
Elizabeth should remarry or the
business of the farm should be
considered by my Executors
aforesaid or the survivor of
them or the Executors or
Administrators of each survivor
in an unprosperous states then I
direct that the said farm may be
given up at the discretion of my
Executors aforesaid and that the
stock farming implements and
Residue of my property
whatsoever and wheresoever to be
sold and absolutely disposed of
either by public auction or
private contract as he or they
my Executors aforesaid shall
think best And I will and direct
that the monies arising by the
ways and means aforesaid to be
applied as follows that is to
say one third to be paid
immediately to my wife Elizabeth
the remaining two thirds I give
and bequeath to my two children
aforesaid to be placed out at
Interest on good securities by
my Executors aforesaid the
interest to be applied towards
their maintenance and education
until they have attained
respectively the age of twenty
one years with benefit of
survivorship And when and as
soon as they attain that age the
principal interest accumulating
and savings if any shall be paid
them in equal shares And I also
direct that all my just debts
funeral expenses and the
expenses attending the Execution
of the trust of this my Will may
be fully paid and satisfied out
of my personal Estate as soon as
conveniently may be after my
decease And I do hereby revoke
all and every former and other
Will and Wills by me at any time
heretofore made and do declare
this only to be and contain my
last Will and
Testament
In witness whereof I the said

to this my last Will and
Testament set my hand and seal
this seventeenth day of December
in the year of our Lord one
