The Will of John Brown
This is the last Will and Testament of me John
Brown of Wareham in the County of Dorset made and published the
Thirtieth Day of March in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Seven
Hundred and Seventy Two as follows that is to say First I give and
devise unto my Brother Thomas Brown and his Heirs All my Lands Tenements
and Hereditaments situate lying and being at Killwood within the Parish
of Church Knowle in the Isle of Purbeck and County of Dorset with Common
of Pasture in Knowle and East Creech Downs And also the Heath or Common
Ground in the said Parish of Church Knowle called Creech Heath which was
devised to me in ffee by the Will of my late Uncle Giles Brown deceased
Subject to the Payment of one Moiety or Half Part of an Annuity or
yearly Sum of Three pounds and Twelve Shillings charged on all the Lands
devised to me by the said Will and made payable thereout unto his Sister
Margaret the Wife of Philipp Cribb during the Term of her Life To hold
to my said Brother Thomas Brown Subject to and chargeable with the
Payment of one Moiety or Half Part of the said Annuity his Heirs and
Assigns for ever Also I Give and devise unto my said Brother Thomas
Brown my two Leasehold Plotts of Ground at Killwood aforesaid which I
hold under John ffarr Esquire Also I Give and devise unto my Brother
Giles Brown and his Heirs All my Lands Tenements and Hereditaments
situate lying and being at East Creech in the Parish of Church Knowle
aforesaid Together with the Common of Pasture Heath Furze and Turbary in
the said Heath or Common Ground called Creech Heath and Common of
Pasture in Knowle and Creech Downs Subject to the Payment of the other
Moiety or Half Part of the said Annuity payable to the said Margaret the
Wife of Philip Cribb Subject to and chargeable with the Payment of one
Moiety or Half Part of the said Annuity his Heirs and Assigns for ever
Also I Give and devise unto my said Brothers Thomas Brown and Giles
Brown from and after the decease of my Uncle Robert Brown for and during
their joint natural Lives All Pitts and Mines of Tobacco Pipe Sugar
Bakers and Potters Clay or other merchandizeable Clay whatsoever which
are now open and which may hereafter be opened in any of my Lands Heath
and Common Grounds hereinbefore devised with all the Clay that shall
from Time to Time be dug taken or drawn thereout for their joint Use
Benefit and Advantage Also I Give unto my honoured Mother Mary Brown the
Sum of Three Hundred Pounds to be paid her by my residuary Legatee
hereinafter named at the End of Two Years after my Decease with Interest
for the same yearly after the rate of ffour Per Cent from the Day of my
Death until Payment thereof Also I give unto my Sister Betty Brown the
like Sum of Three Hundred Pounds to be paid her by my residuary Legatee
at the End of Two Years after my Decease with Interest for the same
yearly after the rate of ffour Per Cent from the Day of my Death until
Payment thereof And all the rest and residue of my Monies Goods Chattles
and Personal Estates whatsoever Subject to the Payment of the aforesaid
Legacies to my said Mother and Sister I give and bequeath unto my said
Brother Thomas Brown And I do make and appoint him sole Executor of this
my Last Will and Testament In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my
Hand and Seal the day and Year first above written John Brown
