[Will of Betty Brown – 1781 Nee Symes]
In the name of God amen I Betty Brown Wife of Saml Brown of the Parish
of Chard In the County of Sumersett Clothier, being in full enjoyment of
my reason and Memory Praise be God, Do make & ordaine this my Last Will
and Testament, in manor and Form following that is to say as I am
Possessed of two Hundred and Fifty Pounds after my Husband Saml Browns
Death or before I have a Child or Children as by marriage covenants
Signed and Seal’d and is for the Trust of Aaron Stark Benjamin Pitts and
Wm Symes the younger, it is in my Power to Give the above sum to my
Child or Children or any Els home I Shall think (Fair) which said Sum is
on a morgage as the Covenants Specifies Item first I Give to any Child
or Children the Above named Sum of 250 pounds to be paid to (Their) or
them at the Age of 21 Years to be Equaly Divided, but if but one Child
he or She to have the Hole Under the Same trustes but if they Die others
to be Chosen, but if I have no Child Seviving at my Death or if he or
thay Should Die before the age of 21 years then the above sum of 250
pounds I Give to my Brothers & Sisters Undernamed to be Equally Divided

if my mother Mary Symes of Membery in the County of Devon Should Sirvive
I and my Husband Saml Brown Then my Brothers & Sisters Shall pay to my
Mother Mary Symes AforeSaid twelve Pounds Ten Shillings each year
Duering her Life Being the In trust of the aforsaid 250 pounds The 250
pounds to be paid to my Brors and Sisters by my Husband Saml Browns
Exceters in one Year after his Death
