The Will of James Brooks

 

I James Brooks of Nunney in the County of Somerset Baker being of sound and disposing mind and memory and understanding but mindful of my mortality do this twentieth day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty five make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say ffirst I desire to be decently and privately buried in the Church Yard in the Parish of Nunney without any funeral pomp and with as little expence as may be and I give and bequeath the piece of freehold land called Hop Yard measureing four rods and a half more or less situate lying and being on the left hand side of the Lane leading from Nunney to Ridgeway & on the north side of my dwelling house and very near the same separated by the said Lane leading to Ridgeway to my dear Wife Sarah for and during her life and I desire that the said piece of land at the decease of my dear wife be given to my son George his heirs and assigns for ever also I give and bequeath the leasehold house and garden with the appurtenances situate in Nunney & now occupied by me being leasehold to my dear wife Sarah for & during her life and at her decease I give the said house garden & appurtenances to my son George his heirs and assigns And as to all the Rest Residue and Remainder of my estate whatsoever and wheresoever and of what nature kind and quality soever the same may be and not hereinbefore disposed of after payment of my debts legacies funeral; expences and the expence of proving this my will I do hereby give and bequeath the same to my dear wife Sarah Brooks whom I nominate and appoint sole Executrix of this my last Will and testament hereby revoking all former and other wills by me heretofore made In witness whereof I have to this my last will and testament set and subscribed my hand and seal the day and year first above written The mark X of James Brooks
