The Will of Dame Anne Bromfeild
In the
Name of God Amen. I Dame ANNE
BROMFEILD wife of Sir EDWARD
BROMFIELD of Suffolke Place in
the County of Surry Baronet and
late relict and Executrix of the
Last Will and Testament of
WILLIAM LANT late of London
Merchant being sick in body and
of sound and perfect memory doe
make and ordain this my last
Will and Testament in writing in
manner and forme following...
First I bequeath my Soul into
the hands of Almighty God
hopeing to be saved by the
merits of Jesus Christ my
Saviour and my body to be buried
in Christian burial at the
discretion of my Executor
hereafter named. And whereas the
said Sir EDWARD BROMFIELD by
writing under his hand and seale
before my Marriage with him did
Covenant promise and agree to
and with one or more person or
persons on my behalf that it
should and might be lawfull to
and for me the said Dame ANN
BROMFEILD And that I the said
Dame ANN BROMFEILD should have
full power, liberty and
Authority at any time or times
thereafter during my life
whether sole or married and
notwithstanding my investure by
any deed or deeds writing or
writings by me sign'd or seal'd
or by my last will to give grant
lease limit devise and bequeath
all such reall and personall
Estate, Jewells money, Plate,
Houshold Stuff, Goods or
Chattells whatsoever which I
then was possess'd of or at any
time after might have or be
possessed of as by the said
writing ?????? thereunto being
had may more at large(?) appear.
I doe hereby give and bequeath
unto my Deare Son MATTHEW LANT
all my right, title, Interest,
Claim and demand of and to
retain Lands and Tenements of
JOHN HODGES of the Inner Temple
London esq. situate lying and
being in Ramshoft(?) or
elsewhere in the County of
Suffolk, mortgaged to ROBERT
PAYNE of the Inner Temple London
esq. And my said son MATTHEW
LANT for a certain Sume of money
which said money was the proper
moneys of me the said Dame ANN
and also my Stock in the East
India Company ??? and enter'd in
the name of him the said MATTHEW
LANT formerly my ffathers. And
as to the Debt or Debts due to
me from the Earle of Stamford
for which PAUL PROWES of the
Middle Temple London esq. is
Trustee, I doe give and bequeath
to the said ROBERT PAIN and
NATHANIEL HUNT of Cliffords Inn
London gent. In Trust and to the
Intent that the said ROBERT
PAINE and NATHANIEL HUNT shall
demand and ??? all such Sume or
Sumes of money due or payable to
me from the said Earle. And the
said moneys when received shall
lay out to the best advantage
they can in the purchase of one
or more Estates in Lands and
Tenements to the value thereof
which shall be to the use of my
Deare Sonn JOHN LANT for life;
and to the first second and
third Son of his body lawfully
begotten. And for want of such
issue to my said Sonn MATTHEW
LANT his heirs and Assignes for
ever. And I doe give and
bequeath unto my said Sonn JOHN
LANT the Sume of One hundred
pounds per Annum payable half
yearly till the Settlement above
mentioned be executed. And
Whereas I have a Recoganizance
upon the Estate of my Deare
husband Sir EDWARD BROMFEILD the
Principall whereof is Eight
hundred pounds I doe order my
Executor hereafter named to pay
out of the same after the death
of the said Sir EDWARD five
hundred pounds to my
Grand-daughter ANNE now living
upon her day of marriage. And if
she dies before then to the
other of my Deare Sonns THOMAS
LANT's children share and share
alike; One hundred pounds to my
said Sonn THOMAS LANT One
hundred pounds to his wife now
liveing. I likewise order my
Executor to pay one hundred
pounds to each Grand-daughter I
shall have living at the time of
my death at their day of
Marriage or Age of One and
twenty. And what remains thereof
to my Son MATTHEW LANT and JOHN
LANT share and share alike. And
I doe appoint my Executor to
sell my Jewells and the proceed
thereof to be divided between
the said MATTHEW LANT and JOHN
LANT. And I doe give to my Sonn
THOMAS his wife all my Cheyney
(China?) and appoint my bills
bonds and plate to be sold and
the proceed thereof to pay
ffunorall charges, debts and
legacies hereafter mentioned. In
the first place the Recognizance
Mrs. KEMPTHERNE hath upon the
said HODGES Estate to my Dear
husband Sir EDWARD. One hundred
pounds to my Cousin Mrs. ANN
MARRIOTT. Ten pounds to my
Cousin LYDROFF. Five pounds to
Mrs. LAMBORNE formerly my
Servant. Tenn pounds to the said
ROBERT PAYNE and NATHANIEL HUNT.
Fourty shillings apiece to buy
them a Ring to each of my
servants Fourty Shillings to my
own proper servant living with
me at the time of my decease.
All my wearing Apparell if my
Executor thinks fit my damask
bed, curtains, valours and all
thereto belonging I give to my
Son MATTHEW LANT and doe make
him of this my Will Sole
Executor. In Witness whereof I
have hereunto set my hand and
seale this fifteenth day of
December 1696.

This is the will of another "Dame Anne Bromfeild"; this one being Anne LENTHALL, daughter of Thomas LENTHALL, who married (1) William LANT, merchant of London, and (2) Sir Edward BROMFIELD, baronet.
