The Will & Inventory of Thomas Boardman

 

In the name of God Amen:  I Thomas Bordman of Haddock in the County of Lanc’s yeaman being indisposed & infirme in Body but of sound & perfect Mind and Memory (praise be Asscribed & Given unto Almighty God for the same) Doe Constitute Make & ordaine this my last will & Testament (here by revoking disanulling & Making voyd all former wills & Testaments by mee heretofore Made & Comprized) in Manner & forme following, That is to say first and Principally I Com’end mySoule into the hands of Almighty God my Maker hoping through the Merritts Death & Passion of Jesus Christ my Saviour and Redeem’r to have full and free Pardon & forgiveness of all my sinns and to Inherritt Everlasting Life  And my Body i Comitt to the Earth from whence it came to be decently Buried att the Parrish Church of Winwick att the discretion of my friends & Executors hereafter nominated and Appoynted  And as touching the disposition of all such Temporall Estate as the Lord in his mercy hath been pleased to lend & bestow upon mee i dispose and bequeath of the same as follows:  And first i will that all my Debts and funerall Expences be paid & discharged out of the whole p’sonall Estate And whereas i now stand Lawfully seized interested & possssed of a Certaine Messuage & Tenem’t with all & every the Appurtan’es thereto belonging by virtue of one Indenture of Lease uder the hand & Seale of Peter Legh Esq’r i will Devise and Bequeath the same as follows That is to say i will Devise & bequeath all & every the s’d Messuage & Tenem’t with all & every the Appurtan’es thereto belonging unto John Banckes of Haddock afores’d yeam’n and James Bordman my Brothers & to the Survivours of them his & theire Exec’s and Assignes during all the Terme & Continance of the s’d Indenture of Lease yet to come & unxpired to and for all such uses trusts limita’cons Intents & purposes Nevertheless as are herein and hereafter Men’coned specified & declared and to no other use intent or purpose whatsoever  That is to say upon speciall trust & Confidence nevertheless that they the s’d John Banckes & James Bordman the Survivor & Survivours of them his and their Exec’rs and Assignes shall & will permitt & suffer Ellen Bordman my now wife to receive and take all the Issues & Profitts arising out of my s’d Messuage & Tenem’t with the Appurtan’es thereto belonging for and towards the Edu’cacon and bringing upp of James Bordman my son & Jane Bordman my daughter during all the Terme or untill such time as the s’d James Bordman my son shall Attaine to the Age of Twenty one years And After such time as the s’d James Bordman my son shall Attaine to the Age of Twenty one yeares then upon speciall Trust & Confidence that they the s’d John Bancks & James Bordman the Survivour or Survivours of them his & their Execu’s & Assignes shall & will permitt and suffer the s’d James Bordman my son to receive & to take to his owne p’per use and Behoofe all the Issues & Profitts of my s’d Messuage & Tenem’t with all & every the Appurtan’ces thereto belonging during the Continuance of the s’d Indenture of Lease provided hee the s’d James Bordman my son shall not att any time after his Attainement of the Age of Twenty one yeares neglect refuse or fayle to pay to the aforenamed Ellen Bordman his mother the full & just sume of five pounds of Lawfull English Money att & upon every twenty fifth day of March and twenty ninth day of September yearly & every yeaar during the remainder of the terme time & space of her Naturall Life by equall Por’cons the first payment Comencing att either of the s’d days wwhich shall first happen after the s’d Attainem’t of the Age of Twenty one years And likewise hee the s’d James Bordman myson & his Heires in Considera’con of the full Enjoyment of all the s’d Issues & profitts arisinge out of all my s’d Messuage & Tenem’t with the Appurtan’ces shall further pay unto Jane Bordman his sister the full & just sume of Twenty pounds of like lawfull Money by two equall por’cons viz at & upon the second day of february w’ch shall next happen after his s’d Attainem’t to the Age of twenty one yeares the sume of Ten pounds and likewise he shall pay or cause to be paid the like sume of Ten pounds more at or upon the second day of february next but one after his said Attainem’t of the Age of twenty one yeares in full payment of the s’d sume of Twenty pounds but if it happen that the s’d James my son shall dye before hee Attaine to the Age of Twenty one yeares or have Issue of his Body lawfully begotten then upon Special trust & Confidence that the s’d John Banckes & James Bordman the survivour & Survivours of them his & theire Execu’s & Assignes shall & will permitt & suffer the s’d Jane Bordman my daughter & the Issue of her Body lawfully begotten to receive & take to her & theire owne p’per use & behoofe all the Issues & profitts of my s’d Messuage & Tenem’t with the Appurtan’ces during the Continuance of the s’d Indenture of Lease Shee the s’d Jane Bordman my daughter paying likewise the s’d sume of five pounds of lawfull English Money to the s’d Ellen Bordman her Mother att such days & times as is before Men’coned happen so long to live  And further that the s’d James Bordman my Son occupying & receiving the Issues & Profitts of my s’d Messuage & tenem’t with the Appurtan’ces shall p’mitt & suffer the s’d Ellen Bordman his Mother & the s’d Jane Bordamn his Sister to have hold use occupye possess & Enjoy the Lower End of the house during all the terme of theire lives or till theire marriage w’ch shall first happen:  And as touching the Disposition of my personall Estate i dispose & bequeath of the same as follows: That is to say: It is my will & Mind & i do hereby give & bequeath unto Ellen my now wife one third p’teand to Jane Bordman my daughter two third p’tes of my s’d personall Estate over & above the paying of all my debts & funerall Expences as afores’d  And Lastly i Constitute Nominate & Appoynt the s’d John Banckes & James Bordman my Brother my true & lawfull Exec’s hoping they will see this my last will & Testament duely Executed and p’formed as my trust in them reposed is.  In Wittness whereof i the s’d Thomas Bordman have putt my hand & Seale to this my last will & Testament contained upon three sheetes of paper this Eighteenth day of May Anno RRS........................... 1699.
