The Will of Arthur Bland
In the Name of God Amen I Arthur Bland of Great
Oxenden in the County of Northton fflax dresser being Sick and weak in
Body but of sound and disposing mind and memory thanks be to Almighty
God for the same Do make this my last Will and Testament in manner and
form following (that is to say) Imptimis I committ my Soul into the
hands of Almighty God my Creator who gave it me and my Body to the Earth
to be decently interred at the discretion of my Executors hereinafter
named And as for that worldly Estate which God in his goddness hath
pleased to bestow upon me I give devise and bequeath in manner and form
following Item I give and bequeath unto Elizabeth my loving Wife the
summe of ffive shillings to be paid to her by my Executors hereinafter
named And also I give and bequeath unto my said loving Wife the summe of
Ten Pounds which is now in the hands of Daniel Pateman of Medbourne in
the County of Leicester Tayler which said summe is secured to be paid to
me my Executors Administrators or Assigns by a Bond Item I give devise
and bequeath unto my loving Brothers Thomas Sturgis the Elder and
ffrancis Bland and to their Heirs and Assignes for Ever All those my
Messuages or Tenments standing and being in great Oxenden aforesaid and
also all those severall pieces and parcells of Land lying in the fields
of great Oxenden aforesaid with their and every of their appurtenances
containing by Estimation ffive Acres or thereabouts be the same more or
less and the Reversion and Reversions remainder and remainders thereof
to be by them sold for the Payment of my just Debts and what remains
over and above I give and devise to the said Thomas Sturgis and ffrancis
Bland to be by them applied for the bringing up and Educating of my
Children till they shall attain their respective Ages of Eighteen years
or for putting them out Apprentice and what remains over and above after
they shall have attained their respective Ages of Eighteen Years (if any
there be)I desire may be divided amongst my Children share and share
alike Item I give unto my Eldest Son John my best Suite of Cloths And
all the rest of my wearing apparel I give to my other two sons ffrancis
and Arthur to be equally divided betwixt them Item I give unto my two
Daughters Elizabeth and Prudence all the Cloths which were their owne
Mothers to be equally divided betwixt them Item I give unto my said Wife
all such Goods and Chattles as she brought with her to Oxenden aforesaid
Item I do appoint and ordain my said two Brothers Thomas Sturgis the
Elder and ffrancis Bland joint Executors of this my last Will and
Testament And doe revoke and make void all former Wills by me heretofore
at any time made And declare this to be my last Will and Testament In
Wittness whereof I have hereto sett my hand and Seal this seventh day of
June in the Ninth year of the Reigne of our Sovereign Lady Anne by the
grace of God of Great Britain ffrance and Ireland Queen Defender of the
