The Will & Inventory of Elizabeth Blackeborne

 

In the name of God amen Upon the eight daie of Janunary in the 15th yere of the king ma’ties Raigne 1617 I Elizabeth Blakeborne of Newton in Makerfeild in the Countie of lanc. Spinster Sicke in Body but of good and p’fect memorie laude and praise be unto Almightie god Jesus doe make & ordenie this my p’sent Testam’t & last will in mann’r and forme followinge That is to saie first and above all things I Commend my sule into the mercifull Custodie of my lord and savio’r Jesus Christ trustinge through his Blessed passion to be made one of the number of the elect & when yt shall please his devyne power to sepat my body and sule  Then I will that my body be buried at my p’ish Church of Winwicke theire to rest until yt please god to raise yt upp againe at the last daie and make yt gloriouse  And for the distribution of my wordlie things yt is my will and mynde to have them Bestowed in such manner and forme as heireafter in this p’nts is mencioned and expressed That is to saye I geeve grant and assigne unto my sonne James Travers all my land and Buildinge theire upon w’th thapp’rtenne’cs in Newton aforesaid To remaine and bee to the said James my sonne and his heirs for ever payinge and sischarginge allsuch rents suits duties and s’vics as is yeirely due and payable for the  Alse my will is my funeral expenses legacies and debts being paid and discharged I geeve and bequeath to my said sonne James  All the rest of my goods To be delivered him when he shall accomplishe the age of 21 yeares and not before And if it fortune the said James my sonne to dye & depart out of this world before hee acco’plishe the s’d age of one & twentie yeires then U geeve to my brother Richard Blakeborne out of the said whole goods 40s and and all the remand’r of my said goods I geeve and bequeath to my brothers and sisters and to the nowe wyf of Richard grede… to be devyded amongst them  It’m I geeve … unto my brther Richard one pice of Gold beinge a 22 pice  It’m I ge… my …… Thomas a French crowne of gold  It’m I geeve to my brother Richard his wyf my best Appron  It’m I geeve unto my brother Th… his wyef my best apron next the oth’r  It’m I geeve the wyf of Richard Gredell that debt w’ch she oweth unto mee  It’m I geve to my sister ….. my best linen bodidowle  It’m I geve my sister Anne one flaxen apre’  It’m I geve Margary Twisse my best hatt & band  It’m I geve little Anne a rede saten pursse It’m I geve my sister Isabell by Blacke bodidowle  It’m I geve to the wyf of Richard Gredell one paire of ould hose to the wyf of Robte Houghton one paire of gowne sleeves  It’m I geeve to Willm Blakeborne m’rgaret his wyf the wyf of Thomas Birchall Elizabeth Brethton the wyf of Roger Woodd and to my sister Allice ev’ry one of them a paire of gloves and to my sister Allice all my pins and needles  It’m I geeve to Catie Rogerson 1 paire of Blackworke ruffes To Ellen pye one ould hatt and p’clet to the wyf of Richard Flitcroft one ould pr’let to Elizabeth Hasleden 1 apron  It’m I geeve the ould prist wyef ux Mathewe Dombell Janet Smyth and Anne Cowp to ev’ry one of them a wastcoate to Jony woodd 1 paire of hose  It’m I geve to Grosse Anne Ainsworth Jane Jackson & the wyf of Raffe Jackson ev’ry one of them a coate and to the said Raffe a wynding sheete and to his wyf one hatt  It’m I geve ux John Ridiard one greene gowne  It’m I geve to m’rgary twisse a wousted bodidowle 1 paire of shooes and so much money as to make all them legacies worth 20s  It’m I geve to Edward p one napkine and to his sister Anne a silver naglett  It’m I geeve to margary twisse daughter 1 hatt & 1 coyfe And I ordeigne constitute & make the said Richard and Thomas blakeburne my brothers my true & lawfull executors of this my last will & testament to execut fulfil and p’forme the same in all points as my trust is in them above all others.
