In the
name of god amen the sixe and twentithe daye of the
Monethe of November in the Yeare of or lord god a
Thousande fyve hundreth Seaventie sixe I John Black of
Plaineffeld in the diocese of Bathe and Welles being of whole
mynde and of good and perfecte remembrance laude and prayse be
vnto almightie god do make and ordaine this my Testament
[containing?] my last will in manner and forme followinge That
is to say ffirst I comende my Sowle vnto almightie god my maker
and Redemer surelie trustinge to be pourged [purged]
from my synnes and to obtain eternall lyef onelie by ffaithe for
the deathe and Merite of or Savior Jhus
Christ And I will my bodye to be buried in the chancell of
overstowey As touchinge my temporall gooddes Inprims I gyve and
bequeathe vnto St Andrew his Church at Wells twelue
pence Item I gyve and bequeath vnto the poore of overstowey
tenne Shillinges. Item I gyve and bequeath to the poore of
Nether Stowaye tenne Shillinges Item I gyve and bequeath to the
poore of Spraxton tenne Shillinges Item I gyve bequeathe and
Assigne vnto Humfrey Black my eldest sonne and to his
heires for ever All those Teneme[n]ts followinge scituate and
lyinge in Plainffeld in the parisshe of overstoweye in the
Countie of Sondsett [Somerset] Namelie the Tenemets wch
are in the tenure or occupacion of Stywoll Artur Richarde Morley
Henrie Croker Richarde Luker John Hunniball and John Pynd And
also I gyve and bequeath vnto the saide Humfrey my sonne and to
his heires for ever all that my lande wrh lyethe in
the Parissh of Athoult, nowe in the tenure of Humfrey Luker To
haue and to holde all the prmisses [premises] in free
Socage of the Manor of Estgrenewiche Item I gyve
bequeathe and Assigne vnto William Blacke my sonne and to
his heyres for ever All my Lande wch is scituating
lying and being wthin the parrisshe of Busshops
lydiarde in the Countie aforsaide at Busshops Woode Busshops
downe or elswhere in the saide parrisshe Also I gyve bequeathe
and Assigne vnto the saide William my sonne and to his heires
for evr one Tente [tenement] scituate lying and being
in plaineffylde aforsaide nowe in the tenure and occupacion of
Robert Jenckins or his Assignes Also I gyve bequeathe and
Assigne vnto the saide William my sonne and to his heires for
ever all my lande in Padnall & wthin the Parrisshe of
Spaxton in the Countie aforsaide nowe in the tenure and
occupacion of John Burnall To haue and to holde all and
singular the prmisses in free Socage of the Mannr
of Eastgrenewiche Item I gyve bequeathe and Assigne vnto
Richarde Blacke my sonne and to his heires for ever All my Lande
scituatinge lying and beinge in Wurstin in the parrisshe of
Burnand in the County aforesaide late in the tenure and
occupacon of Nicholas Sheperd but nowe in the tenure of one
Smithes of the widdow Everette children To haue and to holde
all the prmisses in ffree Socage of the Mannor
of Eastgrenewiche Item I gyve bequeath and Assigne vnto Johan
my wieff and to Richarde my sonne ioyntelie
[jointly] duringe my wyffs naturall lief All that my State
tytes rytes [rights] and interest whiche I haue in the
Rectorie or personage of Overstoway wth all and
singuler thappurtenances [emolinets?] profitts and comodities
thereof And I will and my mynde is that all and singuler the
premisses Doo remayne vnto Richarde my sonne after the deceasse
of the saide Johan my wieff vnto the wch Richarde by
these psentes [presents] I assigne the premisses in manner above
written Item I gyve and bequeath vnto Humfrey my sonne fowre
oxen the best wch shall remayne after the heriatts[?]
be chosen And I gyve and bequeathe vnto the saide Humfrye all my
plough geare one of my siluer Saltsellers wth a Cover
my second best ffetherbedd performed wth
the furniture therto belonginge and also the Bedstede twoo bedds
standinge over the hall performed with the Bedstedds
also Sixe Calves of the last yeares fall and six siluer Spoones
the second best Item I gyve & bequeathe vnto Alice Richardes
my Daughter tenne shillinges and to everie of her Children
sixe shillinges eight pence Item I gyve and bequeathe vnto
Anne Saunders my Daughter tenne Shillinges Item I
gyve and bequeathe vnto Isabell Bellick my Daughter tenne
shillinges and to her sonne tenne shillinges Item I gyve and
bequeathe vnto everie one of my Godchildren twelue pence All my
other gooddes Cattells and Debtes not gyven or bequeathed my
debtes paide legacies satisfied and ffunerall expense
accomplisshed I gyve and bequeathe vnto Johan my Wieff Willia my
sonne and to Richarde my sonne whiche Joha William and Richarde
I make ordeyne my Executors ioyntlie [jointly] to pay
my debtes and to Receyve my Debtes And I Constitute and Appointe
the righte Worshipfull Mr Thoms Mallott Esquire
Roberte Black and Robert Zellick overseers vnto Whom my humble
and ernest suite is that they will see this my Testament
performed accordinge to my true purporte and meaninge And I Will
that my Gooddes gyven and bequeathed vnto my Executoures be
equallie devided amongest them by Robert Blacke and Robert
Zellick whom I beseche to take suche order wth
