The last will and
testament of William
Bisse of Croscombe,
clothier, made the
seventeenth day of June
Anno Domini 1625
In
the name of God, Amen.
I, William Bisse of
Croscombe, clothier,
being sick of body but
(praised be God) of good
and perfect memory, do
make this my last will
and testament in manner
and form following,
Imprimis, I bequeath my
soul into the hands of
my faithful creator who
(I am sure) will be a
safe refuge for ?the and

christian burial there
to rest until the coming
of my saviour at the

the legacy that is given
unto her by her

pounds worth of plate

pounds worth of plate

poor of the parish of
Croscombe yearly five
pounds during the whole
time that the twelve
hundred pounds which is
given to the three
children of John Stroud
of Stoke Lane by my
father-in-law Mr Stroude
shall in my custody or
appointment or in the
appointment of my
assigns for that
purpose, that is, so
long as the use thereof
doth come to me or the
use of either of the
three four hundred
pounds do belong to me
or my executrix or
assigns for that purpose
Item, so long as the
same aforesaid money
doth stand at interest
to my behoof, I do give
every year three pounds
to a schoolmaster to
teach within the parish
of Croscombe towards the
help of the teaching of
such poor children whose
parents are not well
able to spare the money
for their teaching
Item, I do give to the
parish church of
Croscombe the sum of
twenty shillings to be
disposed there in the
discretion of the parson
and the wardens for the
time being
Item, my will is that
all the aforesaid sums
of money bequeathed to
my aforesaid children
during the time of their
minorities shall be
employed to their best
benefit and behoof at
the discretion of my
trusty and well beloved
friends Edward Bisse of
Spartgrove esqr,
Nathaniel Barnard, gent,
James Bisse, parson of
Croscombe, and Robert
Bisse of Shepton, my
brothers and also that
they do see the
employment of the
aforesaid money given to
the poor of Croscombe
and to the school
according to my true
meaning
Item, my will is that
whereas I am interested
by the ??? in one lease
for certain years in
certain grounds called
Pynam that my brother
James Bisse, parson of
Croscombe do wholly
enjoy the same whose
right it is
Item, my will is that my
wife do hold the
tenement at Stokelane
during her life and
after my son Edward
Bisse, my youngest child
so long as my son
William and my daughter
Mary shall live
Item, my will is that my
sons Stroude Bisse and
James Bisse do jointly
hold the tenement at

mother

son John Bisse shall

wholly to himself after
his mother during his
own life and after him
