clothier, made on the xith
day June in year of our
Lord God 1623. In the
name of God, Amen. I,
Richard Bisse of
Croscombe (being, thanks
be to God, of reasonable
good health and perfect
memory) do make my last
will and testament in
manner and form
following.
First, I do commend my
soul into the hands of
my almighty God and
loving father who will
and is able to ??? the
same and my being (when
it shall please God to
separate my soul from
it) to the earth from
whence it came to be
buried in Christian
burial in assured hope
of the resurrection when
it shall be reunited to
my soul to meet my
Saviour in the ?clouds
Also I give to the
parish church of
Croscombe to be paid to
the churchwardens for
the time being twenty
shillings; also I give
to the poor of the
parish of Croscombe
twenty shillings to be
divided amongst them
according to the
discretion of my
overseers and the
overseers of the poor of
Croscombe for the time
being
Also I do give to my son
Phillip Bisse fifty
pounds as in full
payment of an hundred
pounds promised unto him
to his marriage
Also I give unto my
daughter Ann Bisse four
score pounds and my will
is that if she do marry
to the liking of her
mother and my overseers
that then she shall have
forty pounds more paid
her by my executor
within three months
after her marriage day
otherwise the forty
pounds to remain only to
my son Charles
Also I do give unto my
daughter Sarah one of
the silver ?tonnes
And for all the rest of
my goods and chattels
moveable and nonmoveable
I do give jointly unto
my wife and to my son
Charles whom I do make
my full and whole
executor
Only my will is that,
whereas my living must
come wholly to my wife
so long as she doth
live, my will is that so
long as my wife and my
son Charles shall live
and agree in house
together so shall my
wife have the benefit of
the kyne that I do leave
upon the ?lying
otherwise to be divided
And I do intreat my
cousin James Bisse,
clerk, and my brother in
law John Casbeard to be
the overseers of this my
will and to see that
there be an orderly
provision for my
funeral, ?signed
Richard [his mark]

this will Ja: Bisse,
