3.    Agnes was the sister of John Casbeard of Wells, Somerset, yeoman
4.    James Bisse (d c 1642) was instituted Rector of Croscombe in 1624

Text:

The last will and testament of Richard Bisse of Croscombe, clothier, made on the xith day June in year of our Lord God 1623.  In the name of God, Amen.  I, Richard Bisse of Croscombe (being, thanks be to God, of reasonable good health and perfect memory) do make my last will and testament in manner and form following.

First, I do commend my soul into the hands of my almighty God and loving father who will and is able to ??? the same and my being (when it shall please God to separate my soul from it) to the earth from whence it came to be buried in Christian burial in assured hope of the resurrection when it shall be reunited to my soul to meet my Saviour in the ?clouds

Also I give to the parish church of Croscombe to be paid to the churchwardens for the time being twenty shillings;  also I give to the poor of the parish of Croscombe twenty shillings to be divided amongst them according to the discretion of my overseers and the overseers of the poor of Croscombe for the time being

Also I do give to my son Phillip Bisse fifty pounds as in full payment of an hundred pounds promised unto him to his marriage

Also I give unto my daughter Ann Bisse four score pounds and my will is that if she do marry to the liking of her mother and my overseers that then she shall have forty pounds more paid her by my executor within three months after her marriage day otherwise the forty pounds to remain only to my son Charles

Also I do give unto my daughter Sarah one of the silver ?tonnes

And for all the rest of my goods and chattels moveable and nonmoveable I do give jointly unto my wife and to my son Charles whom I do make my full and whole executor

Only my will is that, whereas my living must come wholly to my wife so long as she doth live, my will is that so long as my wife and my son Charles shall live and agree in house together so shall my wife have the benefit of the kyne that I do leave upon the ?lying otherwise to be divided

And I do intreat my cousin James Bisse, clerk, and my brother in law John Casbeard to be the overseers of this my will and to see that there be an orderly provision for my funeral, ?signed Richard  [his mark] Bisse  witnesses unto this will Ja: Bisse, John Casbeard

 

 

Probate [in Latin] was granted at London 26 September 1623 - names Richard’s widow, Agnes, and son Charles
