In
the Name of God Amen.
I, James Bisse, of
Shipton Mallet in the
County of Somerset being
(thanks be to God) in
perfect mind and memory
do make and ordain this
my last will and
testament in manner and
form. My soul I give
into the hands of
almighty God hoping to
be saved by the mercy
and merits of Jesus
Christ my saviour and
redeemer, my body unto
Christian burial where
my executor doth think
fit
For my worldly goods I
do give as followeth:
Imprimis I do give unto
the Town of Shipton
Mallett five pounds to
be disposed as my
executors do think fit
Item, I do give unto my
loving wife Margaret
Bisse the house that I
do now live in at
Longbred in Shepton
Mallet and all the
household stuff and
plate that I have there
during her widowhood
Item, I do give unto my
daughter Hester Bisse
one hundred pounds to be
paid three months after
my decease and also my
will is that my daughter
Hester Bisse shall enjoy
and receive the benefit
and income of a tenement
that Thomas Huntley did
rent in West Pennard
during her natural life

paid in three months

Item, my will is that if
my executor doth depart
this life before the
legacies given by this
my will to my
grandchildren be paid
that the said legacies
shall be paid unto their
respective fathers and
mothers of my said
grandchildren within six
months after his decease
to be employed and to be
used for the best
advantage and profit of
my said grandchildren
until they come unto the
age before named to be
paid by my executor if
he lived and their
receipt shall be a
discharge for the said
legacies
All the rest of my goods
and chattels not already
given I give unto my son
James Bisse whom I make
my full and whole
executor of this may
last will and testament
I
would desire my brother
Robert Bisse to be
overseer of this my will
