The Will of Margaret Bignell

 

This is the last Will and Testament of me Margarett Bignell of Hooknorton in the County of Oxford Widow being of Sound and disposing mind memory and Understanding (praised be God for the same) in manner and form following (that is to say) Imprimis I give and bequeath unto my two Sons (that is to say) Righton and Samuel Bignell One Shilling a Piece to be paid them by my Executrix hereinafter named within one month next and immediately after my decease Item I give and Bequeath unto my Grandaughter Hannah Bignell Daughter of my late Son Richard Bignell deceased by his former Wife and Daughter in Law to my Executrix hereinafter named the sum of ffive Pounds of lawfull money of Great Britain to be paid her by my Executrix hereinafter named within three months next and immediately after my decease and in case she shall not at that time be attained to her age of one and Twenty Years my will is that her discharge for her said Legacy shall be deemed to be Good and Sufficient in Law to my said Executrix when she doth pay the same as aforesaid (the said Hannah having a provision of the Sum of Twenty Pounds made for her by her late ffather the said Richard Bignell deceased in and by a certain Deed or writing made before his intermarriage with his second wife purporting a marriage settlement and a further Sum of Twenty Pounds in and by his last Will and Testament making the whole the sum of fforty pounds) besides the said Legacy of ffive Pounds given her as aforesaid Item I give and Bequeath unto my three other Grandaughters (that is to say) Mary Ann and Margaret Bignell daughters of my Executrix hereinafter named by my said Son Richard deceased But provided always in case my said last three Grandaughters before mentioned or such of them that shall not be attained to their Respective Age or Ages of one and Twenty Years when their Legacies shall become payable as aforesaid then my will and desire is that her or their respective Legacy or Legacyes (not being then of age) shall at that time be paid and deposited into the hands of my friend William Goffe of Hooknorton aforesaid Baker in order to be by him placed put at Interest upon a Security or Securities to his Good liking In trust for such Minor or Minors until her or they shall severally attain the age of one and Twenty Years to receive the same But my Will further is that my said Trustee shall not be liable for the failure of any Security or Securityes by him taken for that purpose Item I give and Bequeath unto my said Grandaughter Hannah Bignell the Bedd I now lye on together with the Bolsters pillows pillowboard Blankets Curtains Vallance Bedstead and all other ffurniture thereunto belonging Item I give and Bequeath unto my said Grandaughter Mary Bignell my Gold Rings and Great Brass Pottage Pott Item I give and Bequeath unto my said Grandaughter Ann Bignell half a Dozen Napkins one paire of Pillowbears and a Table Cloath Item I give and Bequeath unto my said Grandaughter Margarett Bignell my Great Bible Item all the rest residue and remainder of my Personal Estate (after my just debts and ffuneral Expences are fully satisfyed and paid) I give and Bequeath unto my Daughter in Law Anne Bignall Widow Relict of my said late Son Richard Bignell deceased whom I make ordain nominate constitute and Appoint Sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament And I doe hereby revoke Disannull and make Void all former and other Wills by me at any time heretofore made and doe hereby declare this to be my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I the said Magarett Bignell have to this my last Will and Testament containing two Sheets of Paper set my hand and Seal to each of them this two and twentieth day of March in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven hundred and thirty five
