The Will of Thomas Bennett

 

I Thomas Bennett Gunner in his Majestys Ship Le Suffisante of Plymouth in the County of Devon being of sound mind and memory but calling to mind the uncertainties of this transitory life for avoiding controversies after my decease make publish and declare this my last Will and Testament in manner following (that is to say) first I recommend my soul to God that gave it and my body I commit to the Earth or Sea as it shall please God to order and as for & concerning all my worldly Estate I give bequeath & dispose thereof that is to say I give devise & bequeath unto my dear Wife Catherine Bennett all such heredits as I shall any wise be possessed of and all my wages sum and sums of money lands Tenements Goods Chattels & Estate whatsoever as shall be any ways due owing or belonging unto me at the time of my decease I do give devise and bequeath the same unto my said dear Wife and I do hereby nominate & appoint my said Wife Catherine Bennett sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all former & other Wills Testaments & Deeds of Gift by me at any time heretofore made and I do ordain and ratify these presents to stand & be for as my only last Will and Testament In witness whereof to this my said Will I have set my hand and seal the twenty eighth day of ffebruary in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety seven in the thirty seventh year of the reign of his Majesty King George the third over Great Britain etc. Thos Bennett

Proved at London 2 June 1812

On 18 May 1820 Admon with the Will annexed of the Goods Chattels and Credits of Thomas Bennett late of Plymouth in the County of Devon and Gunner of His Majestys Ships Suffisante and Illustrious deced left undaministered by Catherine Bennett Widow deceased whilst living Relict the sole Executrix and Universal Legatee was granted to Elizabeth White Edgcombe (Wife of John Pengelly Edgcombe)the Daughter the Administratrix of the Goods of the said Catherine Bennett deced she having been first sworn duly to administer The said Executrix died Intestate
