In the Name of God Amen the 29th June 1716 I
JOHN BECKWITH of Nutwith Coat in the County of York being very sick
and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be given unto
God theretofore calling to mind the mortality of the Body and
knowing that it is appointed for all men once to dye Do make and
ordein this my Last Will and Testament that is to say that
principally and first of all I give and commend my soul into the
hands of God that gave it and for my body I recommend it to the
earth to be buried at the discretion of my executor nothing doubting
but at the General Resurection I shall receive the same again by the
mighty power of God. And as touching my worldly estate Wherewith it
hath pleased God to bless me in this life I give and devise and
dispose of the same in manner and form following Imprimis I give my
estate which I lately did purchase of JOHN ADAMSON to pay and
discharge all my debts.
Item I give and bequeath unto my loveing
sister MARY BECKWITH all my estate at Holme House in Nitherdale and
leasing at Craco, Flasby and Coveniston ... and all my estate at
Cubeck, Brough Hill and Worton paying and discharging all legacys
before charged (by will of my father) and £300 to sister ISABEL
BECKWITH which I give her as a legacy for her tender respect I bear
for her.
Item I give unto my Loving Mother all my Plate
at Nutwith Coat, closes and my farmhold at Roomer with all my goods
and chattels as they now stand for her natural life and to my nephew
THOMAS DODSON after her death, if he will change his name to
BECKWITH, if he do not I give him £20 only to be paid him from 21
years to the end of his natural life by my sister MARY BECKWITH half
yearly out of Nutwith Coat North Closes and the farm at Roomer which
I give her upon my nephew's refusal to change his name .... If my
nephew should accept .... the £20 to be void, and I do hereby
utterly disallow revoke and disannull all and every other former
testament Will and legacy requests ... ratifying and confirming this
and no other to be my Last Will and Testament In witness whereof I
have hereunto set my hand and seal this day and year above written.
I do appoint my Mother sole exeuctrix...
