In the Name of God Amen 10 Januarie and in the
yeare of the Reigne of our Soverigne Lord James by the Grace of God
kinge of England France and Ireland defender of the Faith
1623.[1624]
I ANTHONIE BECKWITH of Nutwith in the County
of York yeoman sicke in body yett of good and perfect memorie
praysed be Almighty God doe make and ordeyne this my Last Will and
Testament in manner and forme following. First I bequeath my soul
into the hands of Almighty God and my onelie Saviour and Redeemer
Jesus Christ though whose meritts and death I hope to be saved And
my bodie to be buryed in the parish church of Masham at the
discretion of my Friends. And for my worldlie goods I give and
bequeath them in manner and form following
First I give unto the Repayringe of the Bridge
called Ladie Bridge standing over the River Burne in the parish of
Masham 40 shillings.
Item I give and bequeath unto my two daughters
KATHERINE and DOROTHIE 40 shillings vizt to either of them xx
shillings.
Item I give and bequeath to everie one of my
grandchildren 6s 8d a peice.
Item I give and bequeath unto my sonne
CHRISTOPHER BECKWITH one Brass Mortar for an heir loome.
Item (whereas MARMADUKE BECKWITH by his deed
Indenture did passe ?reale m e? lands in Littlethorpe to me and some
other his friends to the use of his children) my mynde and will is
That the same lands (according to the truste in me and the other of
the said MARMADUKE BECKWITH his friends) mentioned in the said
Lease, maie discende and come to the said MARMADUKE BECKWITH his
children.
Item (whereas HENRIE BECKWITH did by his Last
Will and Testament nominate me ?unto? Executor with ROBERT TEASDALE)
to doe and performe his said will and di putt me unto wise in Truste
with his sonne LEONARD BECKWITH my will and mynde is That no suites
shall growe betwixt myne Executors and the said LEONARD BECKWITH But
that all things shall be referred to four honest men and they to
make Finall end of all matters and demandes whatever betwixt my said
Executors and the said LEONARD BECKWITH.
Item my will and mynde is that (whereas my
sonne WILLIAM BAYNE is joyned as joynt purchaser with [the?] end of
one messuage or tenement with appurtenances and divers lands
thereunto belonging situate and being in Masham ... which I
purchased of MARMADUKE WYVELL Knight Barnonett and paide all the
money of the said , my said sonne WILLIAM BAYNE not having disbursed
anythinge for the said purchase) That the same maye be sold with all
convenient spede and the money which shalbe receyved for the same to
be disposed as followeth. First so much as four honest men shall
thincke fitt to be paide to LEONARD BECKWITH to be paide out of the
said money so to be recyved for the said messuage and lands to the
said LEONARD BECKWITH. And the remainder to be equally divided among
my four youngest daughters vizt ANNE, MARIE, JANE and SARA. And if
the same cannot be solde presently thent he eyarly profitt and
comodities ... to be equally divided amongst my saide four youngest
daughters.
Item (whereas I have made one lease Indenture
bearing date 3 October 4th year of His Majestie reagne over England,
to certain Feoffees in my truste vizt ROBERT TEASDALE , CHRISTOPHER
BECKWITH, ANTHONIE DAWSON and WILLIAM LEATHLEY to the use of my said
four youngesr daughters for a certain terme yett enduringe) My will
and mynde is that my said four younger daughters shall have the
profitts and comodities arysinge out of the said grounds mentioned
in the said lease for the whole terme ....
Item I give and bequeath all the Reste of all
my goods and chattells whatsoever equally amongst my said four
youngest daughters, my debts legacies and Funeral expences first
paid and discharged out of the same.
Item my will is that my wyfe MARGARET BECKWITH
shall have the education of all my children unmarried and unplaced.
And of this my Last Will and Testament I doe nominate and appoint my
said wyfe and my sonne CHRISTOPHER myne Executors In witness whereof
I have hereunto set my hand and seal this day and year above
written.
