Henry Bate, Haydock, 1683: proved 1684
In the name of God Amen the five and
twenteith day of June 1683 In the five and Thirterth yeare of
the raigne of our Sov’aigne Lord King Charles the second over
England Scotland France Ireland defend’r of the faith I Henry
Bate of Haddocke in the County of Lanc’r Glover being weake in
Body but of sound and perfect memory prayse be given to God for
the same And knowing the uncertainty of this Life on Earth And
being desireous to settle things in order doe make this my Last
will and Testament in manner & forme following (that is to say)
first and principally I Commend my Soule to Almighty God my
Creator Asuredly Beleiving that I shall Receavefull pardon and
free remission of all my Sinnes and be saved by the precious
death and meritte of my Blessed Saviour and Redeemer Christ
Jesus And my Body to the Earth from whence it was taken to be
buried in such decent and Christian manner as to my Ex’rs
hereaft’r named shall be thought meet & convenient And as
touching such worldly Estate as the LOrd in Mercy hath lent me
my will and meaning is the same shall be imployed and bestowed
as hereafter by this my will is Expressed And I doe Revoke
renounce frustrate & make void all wills by me formerly made And
declare & Appoynt this my Last will and Testament And first as
touching & concerning the sume of fifty pound charged to be paid
by Henry Houghton of and from my Mesuage and Tenem’t where I now
live men’coned & Expressed in one Indenture of Assignm’t by me
Lawfully Executed My mind & will is And I doe hereby give and
dispose the same as hereaft’r followeth viz to Anne and Mary
Houghton daughters to Robert Houghton late of Haddock deceased
the some of Tenn pound A peece Item to John and Margret
children of the said Robert the sume of Seaven pound & Tenn
shillings A peece Item to Thomas Houghton of Haddock and to
Alice wife of Gervase Leyland the like sume of seaven pound and
Tenn shillings A peece And to be paid by the said Henry Houghton
his Ex’rs Admin’s or assignes within two yeares after my decease
And as to my Goods my will and Mynd is that my debts funerall
Expence and the Charges of the proveing this my will be first
discharged out of the same Then I give to Isaac Houghton five
shillings and to Thomas Houghton seaventeene shillings which he
now oweth me And the rest & residue of All my Goods whatsoev’r I
give to the said Henry Houghton And of this my Testament I
Appoynt and make John Houghton of Newton Common & the aforesaid
Thomas Houghton Ex’rs hereof And John Bankes & Robert Cash
overseers of the same In witness whereof I have hereunto put my
hand & seale the day & yeare above written
