Will of Ann BATE of CHEADLE 1590.

In the Name of God Amen, this first day of
August in the year of Our Lord 1590, I Anne BATE of Ladybridge
within the parish of CHEADLE in the County of Chester, widow,
being in good and perfect remembrance, praised be God, I do
ordain and make my last will and testament in manner and form
following.
First and principally I commit my soul to Almighty God my
Creator and Maker, trusting and most faithfully believing that
through the merits of Our Saviour Jesus Christ I shall come to
the fruition of His glory in His Heavenly Kingdom. And my body
to be buried in the church of Cheadle near the place where my
husband lies.
And I give and bequeath unto Thomas BATE my son three kine. And
I give and bequeath unto William BANCROFT of the Scows hill one
cow. And to Anne BATE my god daughter a heifer. And to Margaret
BATE daughter of William BATE I give and bequeath a stirk.
And I give and bequeath unto Anne BANCROFT my daughter six
pounds 13 shillings and fourpence. And to said Anne I give my
apparel saving to Alice [G...er] a petticoat and to Isobel Bate
my best kirtle.
Also I give and bequeath unto William Bate my son all my parts
of the [farm/team?] the landlord being answered of his heriot
and I give and bequeath unto Ellen BARLOW my servant 13s 4d and
a worsted apron, a flaxen smock when it is ready. And to Anne
ROGERSON another smock of the same cloth.
And all such ground as in stock between William Bate and me I
will the same shall remain after my decease to William Bate my
son.
And I give and bequeath unto Thomas Bate my son six pounds and
three shillings and fourpence.
The rest of my goods after my decease, debts paid and funeral
expenses discharged and these my legacies aforesaid performed I
will to be divided equally amongst my four children, to wit
William Bate, Hugh Bate, Thomas Bate and Anne Bancroft.
And I ordain and make my lawful executors William Bate and
William Bancroft of Scows hill whom I trust to perform this my
last will and testament as my especial trust is in them. In
witness whereof to this my last will and testament I the said
Anne Bate have put my seal this day and year abovesaid.
