This is the last Will
and Testament of me Sarah Basson of Aston in the parish of
Bampton in the county of Oxford widow made this first day of May
one thousand eight hundred and fifty five as follows I give and
devise to my friends James Rose of Bampton aforesaid Gentleman
and Richard Fox of the same place Yeoman All that my messuage or
tenement situate at Aston aforesaid and now or late in the
occupation of William Waring as tenant thereof together with the
outbuildings edifices garden and appurtenances to the same
belonging and also all other my real estate whatsoever and
wheresoever To hold to them their heirs executors administrators
and assigns according to the respective tenures of the same upon
trust to sell and dispose of the same either entirely or in
parcels by public auction or private contract to any person or
persons willing to become the purchaser or purchasers thereof
respectively for such price or prices as to my said trustees or
the survivor of them or the heirs executors administrators or
assigns of such survivor shall seem reasonable and for promoting
and facilitating such sale or sales do and shall enter into make
and execute all such contracts covenants agreements conveyances
surrenders assurances acts deeds matters and things which to my
said trustees or the survivor of them or the heirs executors
administrators or assigns of such survivor shall seem reasonable
or necessary or be approved by their solicitor or counsel in the
law And I declare that the receipt and receipts of my said
trustees or the trustees or trustee for the time being of this
my Will for any money payable to them him or her by virtue of
the trusts aforesaid shall effectually discharge the person or
persons paying the same from being answerable or accountable for
the misapplication or nonapplication thereof or of any part
thereof or from being obliged to see to the application thereof
or of any part thereof And such purchase money after deducting
all expences of such sale or sales or incidental thereto or to
this my Will to form part of my residuary personal estate I give
to my cousin Ann Clanfield now living with me my round tea table
small oak dining table set of fire irons dog irons fender and
grate brass warming pan a nest of small drawers the elbow chair
and covers the two pewter Christening dishes with engravings on
them all being now in my sitting room and also my dresser and l
the shelves in the kitchen and all the blue ware and other
things that are thereon together with the corner cupboard and
the round table three smoothing irons two small tubs with ....
to them in the said kitchen I also give the following furniture
to the said Ann Clanfield the bedstead in my sleeping room with
blue striped furniture flock bed bolster and pillow and a straw
mattress and three blankets and quilt belonging the dressing
table and oak stool four white chairs and deepest deal box a set
of Scripture pictures five in number and a set of drawers also
in my sleeping room I also give the said Ann Clanfield the
whole of my wearing apparel and the following goods in my
parlour namely an odd set of china with glass sugar basin and
cream jug metal tea pot and blue one six plates tea spoons and
twisted sugar pliers and a pair of bellows together also with
two tea boards one square and the other round and two waiters
and the ironing board and blanket but if the said Ann Clanfield
should not be living with me at the time of my decease or should
die before me then I give the said goods and chattels so
bequeathed to her unto her mother Maria Clanfield I give to the
said Richard Fox one large oak dining table standing in the
kitchen and the white dresser and shelves standing in the
sitting room and the oak coffer that was his late Uncle’s and
standing in his bed room All the rest of my household furniture
and household chattels I give to my said trustees to convert
into money to form part of my residuary estate And as to all the
rest residue and remainder of my personal estate money
securities for money goods chattels and effects of whatever kind
or description not before disposed of I give to my said trustees
upon trust in the first place to pay all my just debts funeral
and testamentary expences and the expense of erecting a pair of
good grave stones to my memory then to retain to themselves two
guineas apiece to buy them mourning rings and pay to the said
Ann Clanfield the sum of fifty pounds clear of legacy duty and
in the next place to pay share and equally divide the clear
residue unto and equally between my first cousins John Cripps
James Cripps Edmund Cripps and George Cripps the children of my
Uncle and Aunt John and Mary Cripps or to such of them as shall
be living at the time of my decease I request that the said Ann
Clanfield may be allowed to remain in the house I now live in
three months to consume the meal and other provisions that I may
happen to leave all of which I give to the said Ann Clanfield I
appoint the said James Rose and Richard Fox joint executors of
this my Will hereby revoking all former and other wills by me at
any time heretofore made and I declare that the one of my
executors shall not be answerable or accountable for the other
of them nor for involuntary losses but each of them for himself
only and for his own acts deeds receipts neglects and wilful
defaults only And I direct that notwithstanding the said James
Rose being a trustee or executor of this my Will he shall be
allowed all professional charges which if employed as solicitor
to my trustees or executors not being himself a trustee or
executor he would be entitled to make. In witness whereof I have
hereunto set my hand the day and year first above
written Sarah Basson Signed by the said
Testator as her last Will and Testament in the presence of us
present at the same time who at her request in her presence and
in the presence of each other have subscribed our names as
witnesses

This is a Codicil to my
annexed Will I revoke the appointment of the said James Rose as
my Trustee and Executor and all gifts and devises made to him
and I appoint the said Ann Clanfield therein named to be my
Trustee and Executrix jointly with the said Richard Fox and give
to the said Ann Clanfield all devises and bequests in my said
Will made to the said James Rose except a legacy of two pounds
two shillings the same as if she had been named in my said Will
jointly with the said Richard Fox instead of the said James Rose
I declare that my trustees shall not sell my residuary real
estate if any as directed in my said Will but only my said
messuage or tenament and premises in the occupation of William
Waring and as to the said residuary real estate if any I give
the same to my said trustees for their own use and benefit I
direct that one hundred pounds only shall be raised out of my
securities for money for the purpose of the residuary bequest in
my said Will contained and that this sum shall not on any
pretence be abated by reason of my failure to realize my other
securities for money if any and all such other securities for
money if any I give to the said Richard Fox and Ann Clanfield
for their own use they paying my funeral expences and the
expense of erecting a pair of grave stones in manner directed in
my said Will I confirm my said Will in all other respects As
witness my hand this third day of April one thousand eight
hundred and fifty six

Richard Fox the Exec named in the Will & Ann Clanfield Spinster
the Exec named in the Codicil to whom Admon was granted having
