The Will of Robert Bartlett
In the Name of God
Amen I Robert Bartlett of the Parish of
St Mary Magdalene Bermondsey in the
County of Surrey hatband-maker being of
a sound disposeing minde and memory
although weake and infirm in Body Doe
make this my last Will and Testament in
manner and forme following Imprimis I
give my Soul to Allmighty God assuredly
hopeing in and through the meritts of
Christ to Inherit eternall Life And my
body I committ to the Earth to be
decently Interred at the Discretion of
my Executrix hereinafter named And as
touching my temporall Estate I doe order
give and dispose thereof as followeth
vizt I give and bequeath unto my Aunt
Elizabeth Meede of Clerkenwell Widow (if
living at the time of my decease) the
sume of Three pounds sterling by the
year for and dureing the terme of her
naturall Life Item I give and bequeath
unto Sarah Finch of Bermondsey Widow the
sume of Forty shillings sterling by the
year for and dureing the terme of her
naturall Life which said sumes of Three
Hundred pounds and two pounds by the
year I doe will and appoint shall be
Issuing and payable by halfe yearly
payments out of the Rents and profitts
of all and singular my Messuages
tenements Gardens and Premises situate
in Long Walk which I hold from and under
Mr William Buckle Item I give and
bequeath unto all the Children of the
said Ann Elizabeth Meede which shall be
living at the time of my decease twenty
shillings sterling apeece and noe more
which said Legacies given to my said
Aunt and her Children I doe hereby will
ordain and appoint shall be in full barr
of each and every of their claim and
demand whatsoever jointly or severally
into all or any part of my Estate reall
and personall Item I give and bequeath
unto my trusty and welbeloved Wife
Margarett Bartlett her Executors
Administrators and Assignes all and
singular my said Messuage & Tenements
gardens and premises with the
appurtenances situate in Long Walke
which I hold from and under the said
William Buckle And all my Estate right
title and Interests therein and all the
Deeds Writeings and Evidences relating
to the same To hold to my said Wife
Margaret Bartlett her Executors
Administrators and Assignes for and
dureing all the rest and residue of the
terme of yeares and time which shall be
therein to comeand unexpired at the time
of my Death subject to the rents and
covenants in the said Lease reserved and
alsoe to the payment of the above sumes
of Three and two pounds by the year in
manner as above respectively mentioned
Item I give and bequeath unto Sylvester
Carter and Ann his Wife one Guinea
apeece Item I give and bequeath unto
Forty poor Widows (which I have named to
my Executrix) halfe a Crown apeece Item
I give and bequeath unto Mary Pursey
Three hundred pounds of lawfull money of
England to be raised out of my Freehold
Lands and Premises hereunder mentioned
and to be paid her at her Age of One and
Twenty Yeares or day of Marryage which
shall first happen Item I give and
bequeath unto my said trusty and
welbeloved Wife Margarett Bartlett her
Heires and Assignes for ever All and
singlular those my Freehold Lands
Tenements and Premises with their rights
members and appurtenances situate in
Five Foot Lane which I bought and
purchased of Richard Bryan And all my
Estate right title Interest claime and
demand whatsoever of and into the same
and every part and parcell thereof
together with the Deeds writeings and
Evidences any waies touching or
concerning the same To hold the said
Freehold Lands Tenements and Premises
with the appurtenances unto my said Wife
Margarett Bartlett her Heires and
Assignes from the Day of my Death for
ever to the only proper use and behoofe
of my said Wife Margarett Bartlett her
Heires and Assignes for ever Subject
nevertheless to the payment of the said
Legacie of Three Hundred pounds above
given to the said Mary Pursey And it is
my Will and minde that my said Wife
shall as soon as she can conveniently
after my Decease raise the said Sume of
Three Hundred pounds out of my said
Freehold Lands and Premises in Five
Fooot Lane by sale or otherwise as to my
said Wife shall seem meet and the same
when raised shall be putt out at
Interest upon such security or
Securities as shee my said Wife shall
think fitt and approve of for the use of
the said Mary Pursey untill she shall
attaine the age of One and twenty yeares
or Day of Marriage which shall first
happen Item I give and bequeath unto all
my Relations not in this Will named
twelve pence apeece if demanded and noe
more which I will and ordaine shall be
in full Barr of all their each and every
of their claim and demand jointly and
severally into all or any part of my
Estate Item after my debts paid Funerall
Discharged and the Legacies above given
performed All
