In the Name of God Amen I SAMUEL BAKER of
Brokes in the County of York yeoman being old and infirm in body but
of sound and perfect and disposing mind and memory and understanding
and calling to mind the uncertainty of this life Do make this my
Last Will and Testament in manner and form following. First I will
that all my just debts and funeral expences and charges and expences
of proving and resgistering this my will be first duly paid and
discharged ... and as touching my worldly estate I give and dispose
thereof as follows that is to say I give and devise unto my son JOHN
BAKER all that messuage tenement or dwelling house with several
closes ... situate at a place called Catkins in the township of
Hudswell and now in the occupation of WILLIAM MASON as tenant ... to
him my said son JOHN BAKER .... subject and chargeable with the
payment of £20 yearly to ANN BAKER widow of my late brother JOHN
BAKER deceased ..... £160 to my daughter ANN BAKER within 12 months
next after the death of ANN BAKER widow .... and £40 to my
granddaughter ANN BAKER the daughter of my son SAMUEL BAKER deceased
... I give and devise to my son JAMES BAKER all that messuage
tenement or dwelling house with closes ... formerly called Cockins
situate at Brokes .... chargeable with £100 to my daughter ANN BAKER
and I direct my son JAMES BAKER to pay to my son JOHN BAKER 20
shillings yearly ... towards taxes chargeable upon my estate at
Catskins [sic] ..... I give and bequeath to my wife ISABEL BAKER 5
shillings to be paid to her by my executor within 12 months after my
death.... all the rest and residue of my estates real and personal
goods and chattels and effects I give and devise and bequeath to my
son JAMES BAKER and daughter ANN BAKER share and share alike ... and
I appoint them executors whereas I have hereunto set my hand and
seal 15 December 1787
