In the Name of God Amen I Thomas Baker the
elder of Arne in the Isle of Purbeck and County of Dorset Marriner
being whole and in god health of body and minde praised be god Doe
make this my last will and testament in manner and forme following
Item I give my soule unto god And my body to be buried in the Church
of Arne aforesaid Item I give unto the poore of the parish of Arne
tenn shillings Item I give unto the poore of the parish of Studland
tenn shillings Item I give and confirme all such Legacies as Mary my
last wife gave in her death bedd Item I give unto Margarett my now
wife All such goods and householde stuffe as was hers before I
married with her Provided that shee discharge my Executors of and
from all debts and Legacies of William Dolberne her father and
Nicholas Browne her late husband excepting five hundred pounds of
her childrens stock whereof two hundred pounds is in the Towne of
Southamptons hands and sixty pounds I acknowledge to be in my hands
which I have received of my said wife Item I give unto Roger Baker
my sonne all my weareing apparel and my sea instruments Item I give
unto Joane Loope the wife of Thomas Loope my daughter the sume of
ffifty pounds of which he hath already in his hands twenty pounds
Item I give unto Anna True my daughter five pounds and my book of
Martyrs Item I give unto my sonne Thomas Baker five pounds Item I
give unto Edith Baker my daughter two hundred and fifty pounds Item
I give unto William Baker my sonne the morgage of a howse with all
the appurtenances in Warham neere the Northbridge morgaged unto me
for one hundred and fifty pounds by Thomas Loope Item I give unto my
sonne William Baker for fower yeares after my decease all the rent
and profit of the West mills neere Warhame excepting six pounds a
year And after the said fower yeares the one halfe of the remainder
of the Lease of the said Mill with the halfe of the rents and
proffitts thereof dureing the yeares and Lives remaining on the said
Lease I give unto Richard Baker my sonne all that my Land and
Tenements with the appurtenances in Warham and Stoborowe which I
lately bought of William Gigger unto him and his heires for ever but
if my sonn Richard happen to decease before he come to the age of
twenty and one yeares Then the said Land and appurtenances I give
unto Thomas Baker the sonne of my sonne Roger Baker and his heires
for ever Item I give unto my said sonne Richard dureing the tearme
of fower yeares after my decease out of the rent and profit of West
Mills aforesaid the sume of six pounds a yeare and after the said
fower yeares I give unto my said sonne Richard the one halfe of all
the remainder of the lives and yeares for the said Mills which
shallbe unexpired But if it shall happen that either my sonne
William or my sonne Richard to decease before the age of twenty and
one yeares Then the Survivor of them shall injoy have and possess
the whole profit and Lease of the said West Mills dureing the time
of the said Lease as above said Also my will is that if my daughter
Edith shall happen to decease before her day of marriage or the age
of twenty and one yeares That then her portion before given shalbe
and remaine unto all my children equally devided betwixt them Item I
give unto my said Wife Margarett one parcel of grounds called Parcke
in Arne aforesaid dureing the remainder of yeares yet to come Also
my will is that in regard to the Legacie before given unto Margarett
my wife shee shall not charge or demand any thing of my Lands in
Warham and Stoborowe before given unto my sonne Richard Item I give
unto Thomas the sonne of my sonne Roger Baker the sume of ten pounds
Item I give unto all the rest of my grandchildren to each of them
tenn shillings a peece All the rest of my goods and chattels not
given or bequeathed ( my debts and Legacies being paid) I give and
bequeath unto William Baker and Richard Baker my sonne whom I make
Executors of this my last will and testament equally betwixt them
And doe nominate and appointe Thomas Baker of Arne my brother Thomas
Baler of Sleape my late wife Maries brother And Thomas Baker my
sonne to be Overseers of this my last will and testamt And doe give
to each of them tenn shillings over and above all such charges as
they shalbe at in seeing this my will performed And doe give unto my
said Overseers …..of them full power and authoritie dureing the
minoritie of any of my children to lett out to rent or otherwise to
receive and dispose of the Legacies before given for the use and
benefit of my said children as in their discretions shall seeme fitt
and convenient In wittness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and
seale the three and twentieth day of June Anno Dom 1649 Thomas
