Thomas Ayling of Cocking
in the County of Sussex Yeoman being in good health and of sound
and disposing mind memory and understanding thanks be to
Almighty God for the same Do make publish and declare this to be
my last Will and Testament in manner and form following (that is
to say) First and principally I committ my soul into the hands
of Almighty God my Creator in sure and certain hope of a
Resurrection to Eternal Life through the Merits death and
passion of my blessed Redeemer Jesus Christ and my bodye the
earth from whence it was taken to be decently buried at the
Discretion of my Executor hereinafter named And as touching all
my Worldly Estate with which it hath pleased God to bless me I
dispose thereof as followeth (that is to say) First I give and
Devise All this my Leasehold Messuage Lands and tenements with
their and every of their Appurtenances situate lying and being
at Hoile? the Parish of Heyshott in the same county of Sussex To
my Son Thomas Ayling
to hold to him the said Thomas Ayling his Executors
Administrators and Assigns for and during all the remainder of
my Term and Interest therein Also I give and Devise unto my son
in law John Penfold
and Sarah his Wife All That my Messuage or Tenement
Garden plot and Messuage Situate lying and being at Homing? Wood
in the parish of Cocking aforesaid and now in the Tenure or
Occupation of Mary Ayling Widow To hold to them
the said John Penfold and Sarah his
Wife for and during their Natural
Lives and the life of the longest liver of them and from and
after the decease of the Survivor of them I give and devise all
the Revertion and Inheritance of the said last mentioned
Messuage or Tenement Garden and Premises and every part and
parsell thereof with the Appurtenances Unto my two Grand
Children John Penfold and William Penfold Sons of the
aforesaid John Penfold and Sarah his Wife and
their Heirs To hold to them the said John Penfold the
Younger and William Penfold and their heirs as joint
Tenants Provided Nevertheless that if the said John Penfold
the Younger and William Penfold shall happen to dye
without Issue before they shall attain to their age of one and
twenty years then I give and devise the Revertion and
Inheritance of the said last mentioned Messuage or Tenement
Garden and Premises with their and every of their appurtenances
unto my son William Ayling
and his heirs for ever Also I give and bequeath unto
my Son
Robert Ayling the sum
of One hundred pounds of lawfull Money of great Britain Also I
give and bequeath my said Son William
Ayling the sum of One hundred pounds
of like lawfull Money of Great Britain Also I give and bequeath
unto my Daughter Mary the Wife of
Thomas Till One Shilling only she
being otherwise provided for Also I give and bequeath unto my
Daughter Ann the Wife of Henry Dowling the sum of One and
Twenty Pounds of lawful money of great Britain And Whereas the
said Henry Dowling is now indebted to me the sum
of Thirty Two pounds for which I took no Security because I
intended to give him the same therefore I do Acquit release and
discharge the said Henry Dowling his Executors and
Administrators of and from the said sum of Thirty Two Pounds
Also I give and bequeath unto my
youngest Daughter Elizabeth the sum
of ffifty pounds of lawfull money of Great Britain All which
said Several Legacies above mentioned I will and direct to be
paid out of my Goods Stock and Chattels personal within Twelve
Months next after my decease by my son
John Ayling to whom (after all my
Debts Legacies and Funeral Expenses are paid and discharged) I
give and bequeath all the rest residue and remainder of my Goods
Chattels and personal Estate whatsoever and wheresoever and do
make ordain constitute and appoint him the said
John Ayling sole
Executor of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all
former and other Wills by me made In Witness whereof to
this my Last Will and Testament contained in Two sheets of paper
I have set my hand and Seal to each Sheet this Eleventh Day of
March in the Year of our Lord one Thousand Seven Hundred and

his last Will and Testament in the Presence of Us who subscribed
our Names as Witnesses to the same in his presence. Richard

This Will was proved
before the Reverend Mr John Hancock Clerk Surrogate on the fifth
day of March in the Year of our Lord 1760 By the oath of John
Ayling natural and lawful son of the said Deced and the sole
Executor named in his said Will To whom etc Well and truly Sworn
