The Thirteen day of June 1665 I
Nicholas Ayling of
Toathill in ye parrish of Stedham in the County of Sussex
yeoman being fit in body but of good and perfect mind and memory
thanks be unto God therefore revoking all former wills by me
made do make and ordain this my last will and Testament in
manner and form following viz.
Imprimis I bequeath my
soul unto ye hands of Almighty God And my body to be buryed in
christyan buryall
Item I do give unto the
poor people of ye parish of Stedham Twenty Shillings to be
distributed at the discretion of my Executor hereafter named
Item I do give unto those
which shall be my household servants at the time of my death
ffive shillings a piece
Item I do give unto
Elizabeth my loving wife
all the bedding apparel bedding and bedsteads in the chamber
over the hall with all the furniture thereunto belonging
Item I do give unto my
five children Nicholas Thomas William
Mary and Katherine ten? shillings a
piece
Item I do give and
bequeath unto my Grandchild William
Ayling (sonne of my said sonne
William) his Executors Administrators and assigns All that
my Lease for years yet to come and unocpied in a prell
(parcel) of Land lying in ye pishe of Rogate in ye
County of Sussex called by ye name of Wishmeade and Wishmoore
and Washmead and Washmoore holding and paying out of the same
yearly and every year unto William
Ayling his father for the term of
sixty years ffive pounds a year if hee shall so long live to be
payd half yearly by ten? equall portions viz fifty shillings at
the feast of St Michael the Archangell and ffifty shillings at
the feast of the Annunciation of the blessed Lady Mary the
Virgin The first payment to begin at the first of the aforesayd
feasts or days of payment which shall happen after my decease
Item I give and bequeath
unto my Sonne William Ayling’s
three daughters Mary Anne and Elizabeth
the sume of twenty marks a piece to be payd them when they shall
accomplish their severall ages of one and Twenty years or bee
marryed which shall first happen with such use and interest as
my executors hereafter named can make of it from and after my
decease until ye several times of payment as it is above written
All the rest of my Goods and Chattels my debts and charges being
first payd and my funerall expenses discharged I do give unto
Nicholas Ayling
my Grandchild sonne of my said sonne
Nicholas whom I make whole Executor
of this my last will and Testament And I appoint my two sonnes
Nicholas Ayling
and Thomas Ayling to bee executors assigns And I do give
them Twenty shillings a piece for their payment to be taken
therein And I do publish and declare this to be my last will and
Testament In witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and
seale ye day and year first above written

Memorandum
That I the within written
Nicholas Ayling being
at this time sick in body but of good mind and memory thanks be
unto God therefore do add unto my within written will to be
given and paid as follweth
Item I do give unto my
Grandchild Joane Ayling the youngest daughter of my sonne
William Ayling the sume of Twenty marks to be paid unto
her by my Executor within written when she shall accomplish her
age of one and Twenty years or be marryed which shall first
happen with sure use and interest as my said Executor can make
thereof as it is within written
Item I do give unto my
sonne William Ayling
Twenty Pounds to be paid unto him by my said Executor towards
the satisfying of a ffine for that Tenement and half yard land
called Rodford whensoever the said fine shall bee required of my
said sonne William Ayling to be paid I do publish and
declare this to bee an addition to my within written will In
witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand ye nineteenth day
