The Will of Edward Ashwell

 

In the Name of God Amen the Sixteenth day of october in the fourth year of the reigne of our Sovereigne Lady Anne by the Grace of God of England Scotland France and Ireland Queen defender of the faith Anno Dom 1695 I Edward Ashwell Senior of Leighton Buzzard in the County of Bedford ironmonger being of good health in body and of perfect mind and memory (God be praised) doe make and ordaine this my last will & testament in manner following that is to say first I doe comend my Soul into the hand of almighty God my Creator trusting to be saved by the meritts of Jesus Christ my redeemer for my body I do Commit the same to the earth decently to be buried And for my worldly goods & Estate I do dispose thereof as followeth Imprimis I do give to John Ashwell my eldest Son one Shilling only Item I do give to Edward Ashwell my son and to his heirs forever All that my ...acres of arrable land with the appurtenances lying in ....furlong in Leighton Buzzard aforesaid to have and to hold my said one acre of arrable land with the appurtenances untom the said Edward Ashwell my son & to his heirs & assigns forever Item I do give unto Elizabeth Ashwell my daughter the sum of one hundred and fifty pounds of lawful money of England to be payed by my Executrix out of my personall Estate as soon as may be after my decease into the hands of John Ashwell my Brother & Adam Fuller my brother in Law to be by them put to interest for the use and benefitt of the said Elizabeth my daughter or untill she shall accomplish her age of one and twenty yeares and my will is that my said trustees may imploy or dispose of the interest product or increase of the said one hundred and fifty pounds in the maintenance education & bringing up or placing out of the said Elizabeth my daughter according as my said trustees shall think meet from time to time at all times untill she shall attain the age of one and twenty years Item I do give to Phillis Ashwell my daughter the sume of one hundred and fifty pounds of lawful money of England to be payd unto her by my Executrix out of my personall estate when and so soon as she the said Phillis my daughter shall attaine the Age of one and twenty years, Item my will is that Susanna my loveing wife shall provide for maintaine and bring up the said John Edward & Phillis my Children untill they shall severally attaine their Respective ages of one and twenty years they keeping themselves single and unmarried so long Item my will is that if the said Elizabeth & Phillis my daughters or either of them shall dye unmarried before they or she shall attaine the age of one and twenty years then I do give and bequeath the said legacyes or legacy of them or her so dyeing unto and among the other of my children then living equaly amongst them Share & Share alike Item all the rest & residue of my money goods household Stuff Chattellsbills bonds mortgages debts credits & my personall estate whatsoever (after my legacyes and funerall expences shall be paid and discharged) I do give will and bequeath unto Susanna my loveing wife whom I do ordaine & make sole Executrix of this my last will & Testament In Wittness whereof I have hereunto

Acknowledged & declared in the psence of us who have hereunto sett our hands in the psence of the said Testator
