The Will of Susannah Ashby

 

Died on the 21st of March 1835

 

This is the last Will and Testament of me Susannah Ashby of East Farndon in the County of Northampton Widow.

In the first place I charge all my real and personal Estates with the payment of all just debts as shall be due and owing from me at the time of my decease together with my personal expences.

I give to my daughter Charlotte Ashby two hundred and fifty pounds to my daughter Sophia the wife of Ephraim Buswell of Clipston one hundred and fifty pounds.

I direct my household goods and furniture to be sold (except as hereafter excepted) and the produce thereof to be divided amongst my daughter Mary Ann the wife of James Bryan of Pytchley Lois Gamble widow of East Haddon Sophia Buswell above named and Charlotte Ashby.

And whereas I am possess’d of a house and homestead with other premises and also of two Closes or Pastures containing about six acres each called Marstongate closes and also of a Windmill standing in a Close called Mill close together with the said close containing seven acres or thereabouts all of which are situated in the parish of East Farndon aforesaid I give and devise all the said House and homestead and premises together with my said Windmill and Closes before mentioned and also whatever real or personal property I possess and all debts of whatever kind now owing to me unto my Brothers Edward Holdich of Great Addington Gentleman and Thomas Holdich of Maidwell Clerk, upon trust, that they the said Edward Holdich and Thomas Holdich shall and will as soon after my decease as may be sell and dispose of the same and with the produce of the money thence arising in the first place pay all my just debts which may then be owing by me and if there is any surplus left after paying the legacies to my daughters before mentioned that they divide the same equally amongst my said daughters. 

And I appoint my Brothers the said Edward Holdich and the said Thomas Holdich Executors of this my last Will and Testament.

 

In witness whereof I the Testatrix the said Susannah Ashby have hereto set my hand and seal this thirtieth day of May one thousand eight hundred and twenty eight.

Signed sealed and delivered in the presence of us by the said Susannah Ashby as for her last Will and Testament the day and year above written.

I desire that my Executors will give to my daughter Charlotte Ashby my best bed bedstead and furniture thereto belonging also three pair of my best sheets pillow and bolster cases and also my best set of drawers.

On the 30 April 1836 Edward Holdich and Thomas Holdich the Executors named in the within Will were then sworn well and faithfully to perform the same and that the deceased at the time of her death (which happened on the 21 day of March 1835) was not possessed of goods chattels and credits of the value of three hundred Pounds.
