The Will of Samuel Ascough

 

In the Name of God Amen I SAMUEL ASCOUGH of Colsterdale in the parish of East Witton and county of York collier being of sound mind and memory and understanding Do make and ordain and constitute this my last will and testament as hereunder I recommend my soul into the hand of Almighty God trusting in the meritorious death and passion of our Blessed Lord and saviour Jesus Christ to have full remission and pardon of all my sins My body to the Ground to be buried according to the rites of the Church of England and at the discretion of my Executor hereafter named And all my worldly goods and effects I give and devise and bequeath as here under First I give and bequeath unto my wife the use of my money arising from the sale of my effects to be paid by my nephew GEORGE ASCOUGH executor of this my last will and testament And I do order to be given £5 of lawful money to the person that takes my wife to board on or at the time they take her And if they do not take proper care of her so that she has to be removed the £5 to be returned to them that takes her next and the person that has her when she dies to enjoy it forever. Also I appoint the said GEORGE ASCOUGH to give to my wife such goods Utelnsils ands Furniture as he shall think proper And she to have the disposal of them at her decease. Also I give and bequeath to Mr WILLIAM MORTON the interest of £50 upon Bond drawn upon him till such time that my wife die and then the Bond to become payable to the said GEORGE ASCOUGH my nephew aforesaid.

Also I give and bequeath to my brother RICHARD ASCOUGH £5 Also I give and bequeath to RICHARD WALKER £5 Also I give and bequeath to MARGARET DOWSON £5 Also I give and bequeath to JANE TOWLER £8 in case she continues my servant till my decease. And lastly I do order GEORGE ASCOUGH my executor to pay to PETER TOWLER my nephew £2 2s to be paid at the time of my funeral. Also my other nephews and neices I bequeath to each of them £1 1s to be paid at the time of my funeral And lastly I apopoint my nephew GEORGE ASCOUGH executor of this my last will and testament And to have all that remains over paying my just debts Funeral expences and legacies herein mentioned And I do ratify this to be my last will and testament revoking all will or wills by me heretofore made In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 20 December 1783
