In the name of God
amen. I Thomas Archbel of Helagh in the County of the City of
York Husbandman being weak in body but of sound mind and perfect
memory, blessed be God, do make and publish this my last Will
and Testament in manner and form as followeth to wit:
First I give to my
son Thomas Archbel one shilling to be paid by my executors
herein after named within six months time next after my decease.
Secondly, I give to
my son in law John Shaw one shilling to be paid by my executors
within six months time next after my decease.
Thirdly, I give to
my daughter Mary Shaw my Bed and all the Furniture and Goods
that are in the little Parlour and also I give to her my said
Daughter Mary Shaw my clock.
Fourthly I give to
my son in law Timothy Harrison one shilling to be paid by my
executors within six months time next after my decease.
Fifthly I give to
my daughter Martha Haughton my bed and all the furniture that is
in the greater parlour to enter on and receive the same
immediately after my wife’s decease.
Sixthly I give to
my son in law William Clapham one shilling to be paid within six
months next after my decease.
Seventhly I give to
my grandson John Clapham five pounds to be paid by me executors
when he shall attain the age of twenty one years and if it shall
happen that he die before he attain the age of twenty one years
then the said legacy shall remain to and for my executor and the
survivor of them.
All the rest and
residue of my household stuff I give the same to my two
daughters, Mary Shaw and Martha Haughton, to be divided equally
between them. All the rest and residue of my goods chattels and
personal estate whatsoever I give to my beloved wife Mary
Archbel and my son in law John Haughton whom I hereby make joint
executors of this my last will and testament. In witness
whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this fifth day of
March in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and
fifty seven.
Sealed signed
published and declared by the said Thomas Archbel as and for his
last will and testament in the presence of us - John Spencer,
Francis Fryer
Note, this
paragraph was added to this will before the sealing and
declaring thereof. I the said Thomas Archbel give to my
grandson Thomas Archbel one guinea and I give to all my
grandchildren who shall be living at my decease one shilling
each to be paid by my executors within six months next after my
decease.
