The Will of John Anstie

 

In the Name of God Amen I John Anstie of the Parish of Saint Paul Covent Garden in the Countie of Middlesex being in reasonable good health and of sound and perfect memorie and understanding Praised be God Knowing the certaintie of death and the uncertaintie of the time thereof doe this seaventeenth day of February in the yeare of Our Lord God One thousand six hundred seaventie and three make and ordaine this my last Will and Testament in writing in maner and forme following: First and principally I commend my Soule into the hands of Almightie God assuredly trusting by and thorugh the meritorious Death and passion of Jesus Christ my blessed Saviour and Redeemer onelie to receive a glorious Resurrection among the Saints: My Bodie I leave to the Earth from whence it came to be buried decently but with little charge: I give to the Poore of the Parish where I shall be buried three pounds, to be distributed by my Executrix hereafter named Item I give to Katherine my deare and loving wife such of my Plate and Jewells lynnen and household Goods as shee shall elect and choose to have, as shall be of the value of fortie pounds for her owne proper use Item Whereas I stand possest of a certaine Lease for yeares of a messuage and Lands in Egham in the Countie of Surrey I give and bequeath the same to the said Katherine my wife for soe many yeares of the Terme and Termes thereof in bing as she shall contynue my widdowe; And from and after her death or marriage I give and bequeath the same unto Hannah Anstie my sole Daughter and heir apparent her heir Executors administrators and assigns during the residue of the Terme and Termes Provided that there shall be payd foure pounds a yeare to my Cousin Priscilla Monckton of Egham aforesaid during her naturall life out of certaine Cottages and Lands belonging to the said Lease which lately I recovered at Lawe (that is to say) One Close of pasture at Towne Geene in the possession of widdow Mylton One Cottage at Egham Street in the possession of Robert Start and one other Cottage in Ingfeild now in the possession of the said Priscilla Monckton. And whereas I am possessed of two Houses in the Parish of Saint Paul Covent Garden in the Countie of Middlesex which I hold in Fee-farme of the right honorable Earle of Bedford the fee-farme Rent being three Pounds nyne Shillings yearely One of which is the nowe Dwelling house of the above said John Anstie in Red Rose Street Which said House I give and bequeath to Katherine my said wife For and during her naturall life for her Joynture and for an Addition to the said Joynture there is settled on her after my death twentie pounds a yeare during the life of certaine Lands in Breckhill in the Countie of Wilts And I further give and bequeath to her twentie pounds besides the legacies aforesaid of fortie pounds value given her on such Goods as shee should choose Which twentie pounds I will and appoint to be payd her out of such ready monyes as I shall leave, or out of the first Rent that shall become due one of any of the Lands or Leases that I am possessed of The other said house that I hold in Fee farme from the Earle of Bedford in Kingstreet in the possession of Richard Alchorne and partners I give and bequeath to my said Daughter Hannah Anstie And I will and appoint that there shall be fortie shillings a yeare of the said Fee Farme Rent charged on this house in Kings Street And my debts and said Legacies and funerall charges being all payd I give all the residue of the Termes of all my Leases with the residue of my late Jewells and household Goods and chattles whatsoever together with readie monyes and Debts on Specialities due to mee (namely)One Debt due to mee of Eight hundred pounds upon Judgment from Nathaniell Hawes Citizen of London the principall money lent five hundred pounds And one other Debts wherein Samuel Sondis Esq stands bound in a penall Bond of One hundred pounds And alsoe one other penall Bond of four score due to mee at the tyme of my decease I give and bequeath to my said Daughter Hannah Anstie her Heires Executors Administrators and assignes And

I hereby constititue and appoint Katherine my said wife and Hannah Anstie my said Daughter solem Executrixes And I hereby revoke all former Wills by mee made In Witness whereof I have hereunto put my hand and Seale the Day and yeare above written John Anstie
