The Will of Mary Anning

 

This is the last Will and Testament of me Mary Anning of Colyton in the County of Devon widow I give unto Robert the son of my deceased brother Robert the sum of one hundred pounds and one of my silver gravy spoons And unto John, Daniel, Thomas, George, Ann, Elizabeth, Mary and Sarah the eight children of Elizabeth the deceased daughter of my deceased brother John the sum of nineteen pounds and nineteen shillings And unto William Baker Anning son of John Anning the deceased  brother of William Anning my deceased husband my silver tea pot and the stand belonging to it And to ..... Duke the son of Ann Duke the daughter of my said deceased brother Robert my bronze time piece And unto the said Ann Duke my silver ...... my silver sugar bason my two diamond rings my black satin gown my purple silk gown and my china crape shawl And unto Ann Skinner the daughter of my said deceased brother John my silver salt cellars my silver pepper box with the silver spoons belonging to them my silver punch ladle and my largest winter shawl And unto John Ayshford the son of the said Ann Skinner the other of my silver ..... spoons and six of my largest silver tea spoons and unto Sarah the daughter of the said Ann Skinner my ...... and silver tea spoons And to Rachel the daughter of the said Ann Skinner two of my silver desert spoons And to my friend Miss Elizabeth Symes of Colyton aforesaid two other of my silver desert spoons And to Mary the wife of Mr Gillett my silver fish slice And I give unto such person as shall be Rector of Musbury aforesaid on Christmas day next after my decease the sum of five pounds to be then distributed among such of the poor inhabitants (whether receiving parochial relief or not) of the said parish of Musbury and in such shares and manner as he shall think fit And I direct that the tenth part only of my residuary property estate and effects as shall consist of pure personality shall be liable to the Payment of the Pecuniary legacy last mentioned And I give all the Residue of my property estate and effects both real and personal unto the said Ann Skinner and Ann Duke in equal shares and I constitute and appoint the said Ann Skinner and Ann Duke Executrixes of this my will and I revoke every will and codicil by my name or hand this seventh day of December in the year one thousand eight hundred and forty four _ Mary Anning
