The Will of Hannah Andrews

 

In the Name of God Amen I Hannah Andrews of Wincanton in the County of Somerset Widow Do make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following that is to say I Give unto my Daughter Elizabeth the Wife of John William Shearing all such Household Goods in my possession that that were the Household Goods of her said Husband Also I Give unto my Daughter Shearing all my Wearing Apparel with two of my Gold Rings the other of my Gold Rings

I Give unto my Granddaughter Elizabeth Shearing I give and devise unto my Son John Andrews (who is my Heir at Law) all that my Messuage or Dwelling House commonly called or known by the Name or Sign of the Cross Keys with all Outhouses Edifices Buildings Brewhouses Cellars Lights Easements Stables Courts Yards Gardens Backsides and Appurtenances whatsoever to the same belonging and appertaining and therewith now or at any time heretofore held used occupied possessed and enjoyed situate standing lying and being within the Town and Borough of Shaston otherwise Shaftsbury in the County of Dorset late the Inheritance of my Brother James Curtis deceased and now in the occupation of the Widow King as my Tenant To hold the same Messuage or Dwelling House with the Appurtenances unto my said Son John Andrews his Heirs and Assigns for ever subject and chargeable nevertheless to and with the payment of the several Legacies or Sums of Money herein after mentioned to the several and respective Persons hereinafter named within twelve Months next after my decease and I do hereby this my Will strictly charged and clogg the said Premises with the Payment of the said Legacies or Sums of Money accordingly that is to say with the payment of the sum of ten pounds unto my Son Thomas Andrews and with the payment of the like sum of ten pounds unto my said Daughter Elizabeth Shearing and with the payment of the sum of thirty pounds unto my Kinsman Mr Nicholas Brown the elder his Executors or Administrators In Trust to be by him or them in his or their discretion paid and applied unto and to and for the use and benefit of my several Grandchildren hereinafter named by the following proportions (that is to say) unto Thomas John Daniel and James (Sons of my said Son Thomas) And unto Elizabeth and John Son and Daughter of my said Daughter Elizabeth Shearing the Sum of five pounds each further more I subject and charge the said Premises with the Payment of the like sum of five pounds unto every other child or children of my said Daughter Shearing born or hereafter to be lawfully born and to be paid to him her or them at twenty one Years of age without Interest Provided always and my Will is that in case of the death of any or either or all of my said Grandchildren before payment or application of his her or their respective Legacy as aforesaid the Legacy of him her or them so dying shall revert to and go back and be paid unto and to and for the use and benefit of my said Son John Andrews his Heirs and Assigns And lastly All the rest residue and remainder of my Estate Goods and Chattels whatsoever I Give Devise and bequeath the same (after payment of my Debts Legacies and ffuneral charges and subject thereto) unto my said beloved Son John Andrews whom I make sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament And my desire is to be buried in or near the Grave of my late Husband as may be at the discretion of my said Executor hereby revoking all former and other Wills by me at any time heretofore made In witness whereof I the said Testatrix Hannah Andrews hath hereunto set her Hand and Seal this fourteenth day of September in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy five The Mark and Seal of X Hannah Andrews
