Welcome to the Search By County Section of the site.

Here you can see what counties we have that the testator came from, if you click on the county you are interested in, you will see a list of the will transcriptions that I have listed on this site from those corresponding counties.

But please do not forget that over the years the boundaries of many counties have changed somewhat, and so the town could now be in a different county than it was when the will may have been written.

I do hope that you find this site easy to navigate, and I do hope that you manage to find something that can be helpful in your research.

Now I have placed an image of a County Flag on some of the County Pages, these County Flags are listed in the UK Flag Registry and can be flown without special planning permission.

Best Wishes

Peter

Probate Scams

Please be aware that there are currently several Probate scams in operation via the Internet . Many of these will inform the recipient that they are the beneficiary of a substantial legacy but will ask for fees and/or taxes in advance of sending more information or the release of funds.

These will always be fraudulent and on no account should you make any payment or transfer any funds.

You can obtain further information and advice concerning such scams on www.met.police.uk/fraudalert

England and Wales, Civil Registration Index: 1837-1900 - Births
First Name
About the Search:
"On 1 July 1837 a civil registration system for births, marriages and deaths was introduced in England and Wales. Registration was undertaken by civil registrars who reported to the Registrar General at the General Register Office (GRO) in London, now part of the Office for National Statistics (ONS)." (Mark D. Herber, Ancestral Trails, Genealogical Publishing Company, Inc., 1998)
Since the original birth, marriage and death registers are not open to the public, getting access to the information on one of these certificates is done by first searching the national birth, marriage and death indexes, that have been created by the GRO for this purpose.
