There is this mention in the “Relief of the Poor” book for 1802

 

St Mary + St Chads 14th March (1802)

for one month on every occupier of Lauds houses & Tythes for raising a conoruiout(?) stock of Heiup(Hemp) flax thread and other stuffs for setting the poor to work and also for setting poor children out apprentices belonging to the said borough and for disposing of the same as they law directs at on[e] shilling in the pound.
