Mrs Eleanor Myers’ recollections of the inhabitants of Barrow in 1838

Mrs Myers was the oldest resident in 1916, aged 88 years.

Mr MICHAELSON, Gent, Old Barrow House

James HOLMES, farmer, Old Barrow, and two cottages on the estate for the cow-man and gardener

The first parson was Rev HORSFALL of St George’s (actually first schoolmaster and lay-preacher

The first resident doctor was Dr ALLISON

The first sweep was HARKER, father of the present one of that name

SANDWELL & SMITH were the first policemen who came to Barrow
