This index was primarily constructed by Percival
Boyd and his staff during the period 1925-55, before being extended by
other genealogists, and is limited to English marriages taking place
between 1538 and 1837. The Lancashire Index, like those of all other
counties, is incomplete and embraces data that was easily accessible at
the time of compilation. The complete index is kept in the library of
the Society of Genealogists in London and a copy of the Lancashire Index
(to be found in the Main Series) is held in the Lancashire County Record
Office, Bow Lane, Preston.
The Index comprises first and last names of both
bride and groom; year and parish of marriage; and the source of the
record.
