I read several of the transcribed wills. Folk had a
wonderful and different approach as to the use of words back
then and I find we have regretfully forgotten the art. I
have anyway. I particularly enjoyed reading the will of John
Brown of Wareham. He left property from the Isle of Purbeck,
the area of my genealogical Brown ancestors. Thank you very
much for making this will available to us at the touch of a

I have traced my ancestor Elias Batt 1783 back to Witham
Friary, Somerset and his wife Mary Hu(gh)es 1793 - 1837
daughter of Robert Hu(gh)es 1760 - 1841. Elias' father was
Alder Batt churchwarden in 1763 & 1780 and they farmed at
The Gildings now known as Gibbons Farm.
There are also Butlers from Witham Friary and Frome in my
tree. |
