Welcome to Will Transcriptions Online.

I would firstly like to give a Big Thank You to those who have sent in the many transcriptions of Wills that are listed on this site, and for making this will transcriptions site work. This site is Totally Free and I can assure you that it will remain so, just like it's Sister Site 'The BMD Certificate exchange Site' which I also run. There are now  over 3,080 certificate details listed on the site that are looking for new homes.

This web site is the place where you can list the Wills of your ancestors, the site contains a collection of Wills that have been submitted to me for inclusion on the Will Transcriptions Online Web Site, if you have any questions regarding the contents of any of the Wills, then please contact the submitter, whose contact information can be found at the end of each will transcription.

I have listed each will transcription twice, as you can locate the transcription, either by Surname or by the County where the testator lived at the time of making the will. I have now completed adding a map to each of the County Pages, which shows you the location of the County in the UK, and I have also marked many of the towns where the Testator came from on these maps. I do really hope that you find these useful. Although due to the County Boundary changes over the years, some of the towns and villages are now in a different County to where they were when the testator made the actual will.

My intention is to place on this site transcriptions of as many wills as is possible, in the hope that Will Transcriptions Online will grow into a very large data base of will transcriptions that will assist genealogists and local historians alike, and hopefully helping others to locate those distant relatives. Although for it to work, it will need your input, so if you happen to have a will and would like it to be included on this site, then please email the transcription to me by using the link in the navigation on the left of this page. You can send it as a Word Document by attaching it to an email, or you can simply enter the details in the body of the email.

Please note that this site is not just for wills from the UK, I would be very pleased to list wills from Worldwide,

so lets make this site into a brilliant data base of will transcriptions.

I do realise that many wills can prove very difficult to transcribe. You may find the following site which somebody brought to my attention, helpful as it gives a tutorial which will help you learn to read the handwriting found in documents written in English between 1500 and 1800.  http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/Palaeography/

I look forward to seeing some of your comments in the guest book, in which I have also added a section in the where you can list some of the Surnames and Places that you are researching.

At present the will transcriptions listed on this site are from the UK, but this is a worldwide web site, and so I would be more than happy to place some will transcriptions from around the world on this site, so Please look out those wills that you have of your ancestors, and send me a transcription, as this could help you make contact with yet more of your family ancestors.

I am afraid that due to copyright issues, I can only list transcriptions.

The copies of wills submitted to these pages remain the property of the submitters, they are not to be copied, reproduced on any web-site without the consent of the submitters or used for any commercial purpose.
I will enter the wills exactly as they are transcribed and submitted to me.

Please don't forget to place this site in your Favourites, as I am sure that you will find it of great interest, and please don't keep this site to yourself,  tell all of your genealogy friends about it, as I am sure it is going to become a great data base that you will be visiting every now and then.

I have placed a few links on the site for some Free Trials at a couple of well known ancestry sites, I do feel that you can find a great deal of information to help your family tree grow, I myself have used these great Free Trials in the past, but I must admit I did subscribe to a couple, as there was so much info, it was well worth it though, as you can now pay monthly and cancel at any time, Well worth it.

Best Wishes to you all, and I would like to wish you well in your research.  Peter.

NOTICE

Please use the following link to sign up to the Online Petition to ask the Prime Minister to Allow full and open access to registers of Birth, Marriage and Death from 1837 to 1908.

Having full and open access to the registers of births, marriages and deaths from 1837 to 1908 will make it easier for genealogists to research the records and ensure they get the copies they require. If copies were put on the internet this would simplify the process.
These records are over a hundred years old and should now be accessible to all with a small fee to cover the cost of copying the originals.
You must be a British citizen or resident to sign the petition.

Deadline to sign up by: 22 July 2009

Please make a visit to this great Web Site

Here is a Free site that will list Birth, Marriage & Death Certificates  that people have bought in error, I myself have done this in the past, so somebody suggested to me about how good it would be to have a site where people could list these certificates, together with contact details.

I have designed the site and do hope that many of you will make use of it and hopefully benefit from it.
